There is another solution to this....just get legal...


We have had to do this with 1 tons and trailers for years now, and we even have to have US DOT numbers to run into the US, even as Canadian citizens. Our next move is to have recreational vehicles fall under commercial rules as early as this year...

No more Dakotas pullin 35' tag trailers...YAY!!

Sorry guys, I support this 100%, I have seen far too many wrecks on the roads with guys pulling trailers that arent up to spec, or just plain inexperience. I know it will be a huge pain in the butt for some that only pull a trailer occasionally....

and cost us THOUSANDS to get our state numbers, pay taxes and all that......and remember, you have to have a sticker for every state you plan to enter too.......what we will have is 3 or 4 million hotshot drivers.......just another way for the government to line their pockets........if they do keep this up im going to find a way to write the expenses, the trailer, and the truck off.........

So were going to need a CDL just to drive a 1ton truck with a trailer or not, correct?

Doesn't matter if you show a loss on this or not, it's still for the intent of gain and that mkes you a business enterprise.

The Apportioned plate and the IFTA sticker take care of all of this. They are you passport to the U.S, Mexico and Canada under the NAFTA Agreement

Technically speaking , yes. Because the USDOT are now mandating that all your one ton capacity trucks be plated with 10,000 pound weight class plates and by default that makes you a commercial entity until proven otherwise and under the Federal CDL Laws you are required a CDL to operate this class of plates. This law has been there for years now just not enforced before.

Now let me make some of you very happy, and some of you mad as hell. None of this applies to you RV operators yet. If your pulling an RV down the road that is 40 feet long behind your truck, as of this date none of this applies to you. They still recognize you as strictly for pleasure even though you may be on the job, under the table just as much as the rest of us.

How does this apply to "farm" vehicles? I have both mine tagged as "farm" trucks to save on taxes/tags.

Are these new regulations for "normal" tagged trucks?

As long as you stay with the nautical miles of your crop, as they say that your state has designated and you don't cross state lines your fine. If your crossing state lines it's like the CCW laws, some states have agreements with each other and allow farm plates from one another and some don't. So Farm plates right now are on a state by state basis. And don't get caught hauling something non ag related. With farm plates don't get caught haulin a car around on a trailer or you are in violation.

It's gonna get tough for a while. You may or may not be able to get out of some of this. But the first time you can't it's gonna cost you dearly as in rarely under $10,000 by the time you get your truck and trailer back along with even the minimum of fines.

i just dont see how they can make any of this happen. look how many people own 1 ton trucks just because they want to. there are too many 1 ton trucks on the road for them to enforce it. there will be too much of an uproar if they try to do this. there are more people that have 1 ton trucks that tow for pleasure than buisness....sorry but i just dont see it happening..atleast the way i am understanding it. which is i own a 1 ton truck single wheel or dual wheel and i also own a mud boggin truck. now if i want to take that boggin truck from here in PA down to mudfest in FL i will need a cdl & dot numbers and if i weight more than 26001lbs combined weight between loaded trailer and truck i will also need appointed tags and ifta stickers???

It's already happening, Pennsylvania was the exact state that got most of the postings on this topic rolling on the trucking and Hotshot sites. They are already hot the heels of these trucks and doing full blown inspections on trailers.

i really dont see this passing, and i can also see some states economies dwindling cause people will just detour around them......i would go down through WV into Virginia and around before i went through PA if they are gonna pull this crap, of course PA has always had BS laws......this will help on bumper laws too, cause in several states trucks with 10K and above tags are exempt from bumper height laws.......so now the cops cant harass the lifted trucks.....i understand the 26K weight limit, but the rest is BS....
