Rampfart loads all his social work pistols with double tap ammo Doubletapammo Shop

Right now Rampy's 45 is loaded with the following ammo in 8 rd mags.
Caliber : .45ACP
Bullet : 230gr. Bonded Defense JHP (Gold Dot)
Ballistics : 1010fps/ 521 ft./lbs. - 5" 1911

Then you have (but Rampy does not have any of this ammo)
Caliber : .45ACP
Bullet : 185gr. Bonded Defense JHP(gold dot)
Ballistics : 1225fps - 616 ft./lbs. - 5" 1911

Rumpsters 357Sig's (Sig 239 and 229) are loaded with the following ammo:
3.5" barrel - 1415fps
4.5" barrel - 1525fps

Caliber : .357 Sig
Bullet : 125gr. Bonded Defense JHP (gold dot)
Ballistics : 1450fps / 584 ft. lbs. 4"bbl

And as a comparison:
The 165gr Bonded Defense JHP @ 1200fps from a Glock 23!

1140fps 476 ft/lbs from a 3.5"bbl.
1240fps 563 ft/lbs from a 4.5"bbl.

Caliber : .40 S&W
Bullet : Bonded Defense JHP
Ballistics : 165gr. @ 1200fps / 528 ft/lbs- Glock 23 (4.0"bbl)

How about what gun with what load is best to shoot a burglar, a mugger or a varmit at various different ranges under varying weather conditions?
How about does real chili have beans and meat, or just meat and no beans....

Is chili without beans just hot dog sauce....

That was kinda my point. S&W's argument FOR the .40 over the 9mm and .45 was based on select pistol + ammo combinations. I just turned it around to work against them.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the .40. I don't own one but 2 of my brothers do, a Springfield XDm and a S&W M&P. They love them. I've shot them both (the guns, not the brothers) and they both shoot well and have more than enough grunt to knock the wheels out from under the most determined bad guy, but it does nothing more than it's competition and as stated above, with select loads, the competition can kick the .40's ***.

That one's easy. A springfield M1A SOCOM loaded with Hornady TAP.

Just for the record, I like the .45 "best," too.

Some more light reading:

Good info...

All personal opinions and feelings of others aside, what caliber you carry is extremly dependent on what you like, what you feel comfortable with what you feel fits your needs/wants desires the best.

At least till the phaser and 40megawat laser rifle are standard in gunshops....

Ran across this today by somebody who's extremly well versed in the handgun/firearms world and dang if it just ain't the honest truth.....

In many regards, they (1911 45 autos) are like a good .44 magnum. No matter what you compare a 1911 to, you will never feel outgunned having one. They truly are a legend in the gun world and owning one is the best way to really understand why.

well guess what, my guns bigger than yours nah na nah na nah!

I think it boils down to bigger is better. A .45 will get the job DONE! but is most cases so will a 9mm, .40 S&W ect. ect.

People get too concerned about the size of their gun and one would hope they don't forget that their SKILL with it is far more important. Though having a big ol 45 on your hip lends you a certain "bad ***" factor that a 9mm or .40 might not. The common saying goes " a 9mm may expand but a .45 will never get smaller"

Whatever you feel like carrying as long as you have a dependable gun, good ammo, and can use it in a stressful situation, the caliber is pretty much unimportant. Unless your talking .22s or something but lets not get carried away

Its basically like deciding between a .30-06 or a .308. If your hunting deer who the hell cares? Both will get the job done extremely well. Use whichever one you like best.

So says the man with a 9mm. A makarov no less. Does that mean my internet willie is bigger than yours?

Mr. Miyagi's pictures was wonderfull! I'm picking up my 10mm sometime at the end of the week(don't know when I can get back into the gunstore for sure). It's a 1911 with a 10mm top end. I'm not going to bash any of the other calibers, but in the last 5+yrs, that I have been wanting a 10mm, and read/researched as much as I could. The 10mm was the result of the FBI trying to design the perfect pistol cartridge for their agents. And it performs amazing(from what I have read) but then they decided that it had too much bite for them. Same thing happened with both the 357 mag, and the 41 mag. Bot intended for law enforcement, both have great performance, but both fell out due to excessive recoil. The 357 to the 38 special, and the 41 also to the old stand by of the 38. Recoil is not the enemy, just practice and learn to control it. Just a little info, I do own multipule 41mags, a 357, have owned 2 44mags, 22/22mag, and the 10mm is on its way. But honestly with me, some of the apeal of the 10mm is that in isn't very popular, like the 41mag. I just like haveing stuff that other people don't have, hence my disdain for the great little chevy small block, and my lust to own an AMC Gremlin!
