Default Any ideas?

I just bought my first jeep and am having buyers remorse. That will go once I get familiar with diesels. I own a 2005 2.8L CRD Limited with 94000 on the clock. I have not idea of the past owners maintenance habits so I will get busy tomorrow with filter changes, oil change, elephant mod, etc. I bought it as is and hope I don't have a lemon. On the way home as soon as I filled the tank I got a engine trouble light. I had the codes pulled by a mechanic I am afraid I will become very familiar with. The codes are P0299 and E0401. Any ideas? I entered my VIN and unless I am misreading it, the dealer will install a factory hitch to protect the fuel tank from a rear end collision. Does this make sense for a diesel vehicle?

Loads of info on site and I am sure eventually I will feel a little more confident in my diesel knowledge.

You should get a free hitch. Since mine already had one installed they just put a sticker on it.
I would skip the Elephant hose. I didn't like the way they worked out on the GM 6.5 diesels and do not care much for the mod on the Jeeps either.
I would invest in a Green Eco tune and the Weak's elbow.
If the timing belt has not been changed, I would change it ASAP.
Also clean the EGR ASAP. If you do the Weak's elbow you will eliminate the EGR - the death monster for these Jeeps.

If the timing belt has been changed I would seriously think about having it checked to make sure it was done correctly. Especially if it was done at a dealership.

You need to check the tensioner 3 or 4 times before you call it good. Dealerships usually put them on and call it good. Then somewhere around 20,000 miles later you have serious issues.
