Odd manual swap idea

That's the truth! Unless you've been jamming gears for 25-30 years, you shouldn't be allowed to have an auto OTR truck

Yep. Eaton Road Ranger. They're found in medium duty box trucks, dump trucks, etc. I had one in a Ford F800 box truck once and LOVED it. Its a tiny bit old-school in its shifting feel, but what wonderful ratios. Big, beefy, quiet, and able to take about 1800 ft-lbs at a GVW of 66,000.

I would love to tell you, but my E350 cargo doesn't have a tach
I do know (as with all my previous automatic powerstrokes) that the converter lets it stall a good bit until lockup so its hard to tell. I have no issue with the way it puts torque to the wheels or the trans ratios (as long as the shift points are properly programmed), just with the fact that even flawlessly maintained E4ODs tend to die a relatively early death... as mine is starting to do at 106k despite flawless maintenance, stock software, and always disabling OD when towing.
The E4OD/4r100 is a pretty good tranny, but compared to what I can do with a wisely-chosen manual, its pretty pathetic. The few FSO-6 speed trannys I've had were reliable up to 600k, and even behind a Cummins that was limited to 2500-rpm they did a great job. That's not to say I'm putting a 370-lb FSO in my van, but I can also build a pretty stout NV5600.
I rarely need the granny-low, but its all math; finding the right rear ratio to match the tranny and torque curve of the engine.
