I wouldn't call it extreme....just cases of people using 4 wheel drive who have no business owning one.
The reality is that I spent 10 years as a GM technician....hence the reason for seeing more GM trucks with problems. My buddy down the street at the Ford dealership saw his share of Fords with problems. You can't blame anything on the brand. When you load something like that for enough time, the fluid is going to get hot and break down. Once the lubricating properties are gone, so are the bearings and gears.
Low tire pressure can cause issues....that's what I was getting at with different-sized tires. That IS an every day occurrence.
