Dont these IDM modules provide a seperate circut per injector? I would feel that the IDM or ECM could translate in correct injector information. I agree with CSIPD, I'd switch 8 with another injector and see what comes up!

They do, but nothing electronic was changed when they added the AE injector, its just got a longer pilot shot... Done mechanically...

If he's not feeling any type of miss at all, I'm wondering what a balance test will show , or either datalog the truck with a modis or similar scanner and try and catch the bleep on the scope or through the ecm. Atleast get an Idea of what's causing the sensor to read out of range for 8 seconds. I know I can trigger the modis to throw a flag when a peramiter is out of it's normal range, At that point it starts recording, or you could set it to record before that. Catch the misfire counter ICP IPR IDM voltages on the same screen it might lead to his real problem!

I have never pulled an injector on a 7.3, how concerned do I need to be with the oil/ fuel running into the cylinder. was just planing on pulling the injector out and quickley shoving rags in the hole. Bad idea??

no dont put rags in it. after you change/ go to install the inj. remove the glow plug from that cylinder and bar the engine over manually until the fluid in the cyl. comes out. put a rag over top the hole tho. LOL

My self, I am not worried about the #8... I would guess somewhere in the range of 60% of the 7.3's out there will have a #8 failure code... with no other issues.

Drain the oil rail before you pull the injector out. there's two plugs (can't remember the size offhand, but they are different from year to year, if I recall rightly.) in the tube lookin' thing across the top of the head. Wait until the oil stops running out, then pull the injector. This avoids the oil in the cylinder. The shop manual tells you to drain the fuel rail in the head, but it's kind of a pain to do, so it seldom gets done. Bar the motor over after you put the injector in, (ONLY IF YOU DRAIN THE RAIL - IF YOU DON'T DRAIN THE RAIL, DON'T PUT THE INJECTOR IN FIRST) and change the oil.

I'd suggest moving the injector to a different cylinder and checking to see if the code follows it around.

If you have access to the eqiupment, try doing an injector buzz test on the injectors when the engine is cold (sat overnight).
