1994 F250 7.3L ODB2 help with codes
I have a 1994 F250 XLT Powerstroke
Build date is 5/94
The Check Engine light comes on while cruising on the highway. The engine feels like it's running fine, it purrs right along.
Here is the weirdness:
- Under the hood is an EEC-IV connector
- Under the dash is an ODBII connector
- Hooking up an EEC-IV handheld under the hood nets me nothing.
- Hooking up an ODB2 scanner causes the engine to stumble after a few seconds and then either the engine will die or it will smooth out again and tell me it found no codes, -and- the Check Engine light will then go out.
I'm at a loss here to understand why the Check Engine light is coming on, and at a loss for how to figure it out if neither of the testers works to get the codes.
Any ideas from collective experience out there?

Nevermind,
Scouring the Internet for another several hours today appeared to indicate I most likely need to get a PCM reflash, though the truck seems to run fine and I can't get any codes out of it using any known method. I'm currently investigating DP-Tuner options here:
1994.5 - 2003 Powerstroke 7.3L Truck - Ford Powerstroke
I've also called a couple of local Ford dealers asking about the upgraded PCM flash for 1994 F250 Diesel trucks. I've not heard back and I'm thinking I might not since it's a 20 year old truck; they're probably not interested in helping.
If I missed this information somewhere on Diesel Bombers, it's my fault. And I should also note an Internet search didn't appear to bring up any hits on Diesel Bombers either; I found most of this information on other Diesel forums.

Definitely learning here.
I did some Internet searching on DP versus Hydra and came up with a lot of hits. I would say the majority lean to Hydra with a few DP loyalists. Overall I would say the recommendation comes out in favor of Hydra being able to use different tuners files without having to remove and send in (except that it won't run any DP tunes). Feedback also seems to indicate Hydra's tunes "feel" better than DP.
I also went out to Power Hungry's website to read up on their product. I also found other tuner/chip products out there, but Hydra still seems the way to go.
Now I just have to save some money. I had originally looked at DP's inexpensive capability to take my PCM and reflash it, but now it makes more sense to save up a few hundred more and get a Hydra instead.
Thank you for posting the info.
