I wanting to switch my tires and rims own my 04 f250 i currently have the stock rims with 285/75/16 own it. I'm wanting to put some custom rims own it but don't know how big of a rim and tire i could go up to and the offset with out lifting my truck. if anybody has done these please let me know

 

You can roll as big of a rim as you want, but fitting anything taller than a 33 inch TIRE without a lift is pretty challenging. The common BACKSPACE for 99-04 is 4.25 and 4.5. (While in theory I understand offset, I always come up a half inch short when I try to convert it to backspace.) 05 and up wheels can be put on a 2004 (yes this means aftermarket, too) but they MUST be used with a 2 inch spacer. Based on that alone, I won't ever do it.

I had 285/75-16s on 16x10 wheels on my 2003 without issue. I could have gone to a 305/70-16 (same diameter but a little fatter) had I not gotten a hard-on for some 365/65-16 Toyos. But 35s on a 10 inch wheel require a lift of one form or another.

You could probably fit some 35's on your stock wheels, as they're pretty narrow, but with a wider aftermarket wheel, 33's or so. A leveling kit would probably get you in the 35" range or close. I know my buddy had an 04 harley and he ran 325/65/18's on his stock 18x8 wheels, they did rub on the front leaf springs under tight turning, but it didn'y hurt anything.

I'm in the same boat, but I'm 2wd and wanting to stay low (or get lower eventually). I'm used to using offset, not backspacing. Truck came with 16x7 factory steel wheels with chrome cladding and 285/65/16 tires. I'm not sure on the offset on these wheels, the only thing I've found says they might be ET6. If I could find out for sure what the offset on these are I would be able to determine what I can use.

The wheels I'm looking at are 20x9 with an ET0. I'd like to run a 33" tires (305/55/20).

Any clues on how well this will work?

AH-HAH! I knew I would find something! Try this out, it's a claculator that ou can input various numbers into and find a backspace/offset relationship.

-24mm offset is about a 4.5 backspace on a 16x10 wheel.


*EDIT* DAAAAYYYYEEEEE!!!!! You can't just put that straight edge across the back of your wheel and measure backspace because that is including the rim lip. There's that half inch I could never account for when hand converting backspace to offset.

Any ideas on the offset/backspace on the factory 16x7 wheels shown on my truck?

Edit/ they're normally chrome. That pc shows them covered in plastidip so I could see of I would like black wheels.
