Default New to me 6.0

So I took the plung and purchased a 05 f350 Harley edition a couple weeks ago.
Guy I bought it from said it has arp studs, egr delete, and had 70 hp Allianz? Injectors about a year ago? Reading the forums for tons of research I have no idea what these injectors are! As I see we rate them in CC and the other guys tend to measure in hp

The truck seems to smoke a little black haze at initial idle and when getting on it from a dead stop or hoofing down the road it let's out a small cloud and clears right away.
Is this normal?

Then this last weekend I was pulling the cargo trailer and noticed it would let out a thiker cloud when getting on it. It seemed to pull ok but went through a half tank of fuel in 155 miles! Granted I was probably averaging 70-80 mph and there were a number of hills

What do you guys think?

I bought a edge evolution prior to the truck purchase to check the deltas and for monitoring! Everything looked good.. I plugged the unit into the computer to update the software and the Evo took a dump ! I ended up sending it back to edge to fix or replace!

I' ve since ordered the php ficm programmer and it should be here this week.. Do you think this will help clear up the smoke and get better mileage ?

Thanks in advance

i would ditch the evo and get a sct, also i would becareful without gauges. how heavy were you hauling when you got 155 to a half tank? i would grab an sct with a good custom tune, it will help that mileage out.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i got about 190 on a half tank hauling a 7600lb not so aero dynamic camper running 75 the whole way with the a/c on.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I purchased the Evo more on a forced whim as it was all that was in stock! I was driving 7 hrs to go look at the truck and wanted to purchase the edge insite for monitoring but they weren't in stock locally and would have taken a few days to ship in. So my plan is to use the Evo for gauges only and purchase an sct with custom tunes!

The trailer loaded I would guess was less than 7500. I want to take it to the scales one day to confirm!

My original post is more of a fact finding mission as diesels are new to me and I don't know what is "normal" as far as smoke goes or expectations

As well what are 70 hp injectors in our world?

Would the truck smoke more loaded with these injectors dumping extra fuel?

Over a hundred views and no answers? Am I on the wrong forum for 6.0 knowledge base?

Just curious what the heck my injectors are in cross reference and what is normal for expectations on these rigs! Am I going the wrong direction? Perhaps I should look in tuning? Or Should I be looking for more air first?

What I know about larger injectors is this: for best results, get a custom tune. Other than that I know dork about after market injectors. 'Buyer beware' is the phrase that pays.

How big is your fuel tank? Fine, you went 155 miles at half a tank, what was your MPG? On a 26 gallon tank it wouldn't be that bad, on a 35 gallon, it would really suck! I had 10K of crap between cargo and trailer on my 2003 pulling hills between Salt Lake and Fallon, I averaged about 10 mpg. It was heavy and I had a crappy Edge tuner, not too bad all things considered.

In stock mode, it's pretty hard to get my 2003 to puff smoke, but when it is tuned, it clears up pretty quickly depending on the tune.

A stock truck wont blow any smoke, or shouldn't rather.

6.0 injectors are typically based off CC size as you've seen. So saying you have 70hp injectors is rather subjective. HP ratings are for the cummins crowd... we're a little more scientific than that.

Are they Alliant by any chance?

Hard to say what's in there without actually knowing. They could be anything really. The only way to actually know is find some sort of receipt maybe, or you could always take them out and send them to someone like jesse warren @ warren diesel to test and have them flowed.

More smoke with a load makes sense, as it's fueling harder and can't spool up the turbo as easy with more weight. Nothing wrong there.

You really need to get an SCT. The FICM programmer is great, but you're going to keep adding power and nothing has been done to save the transmission. Custom tunes via an SCT are the only way to do this.

Welcome to DB!

I beleive he did say they were alliant?
what would their 70 hp injectors cross over to our cc rating?

Thanks for all the replies, glad to know I am going down the right track.. I do plan on a sct purchase next.. Just waiting for my php ficm tuner and stratagy roll back prior to ordering..

Maybe next I should look at getting more air to it? or have the injectors defuele with tuning?

I am not sure on tank size or mpg yet! havent had the chance to drive it enough to get accurate stats for calculations..

I wasn't aware that alliant made anything larger, I thought they just remanned stock injectors.

As for 70hp to CC, there's no clear cut way to get from one to the other. It's all relative. The HP rating is a joke.

Just doing some google searching, Pensacola comes up when you search for alliant 70hp injectors. They only list nozzles and they list them in 40hp and 70hp, and you're not getting that from just a nozzle. Sounds like maybe a stock injector with a slightly larger nozzle? Again, no real way of knowing just short of pulling them and sending them to someone to check.

Custom tuning would go a long way, but it's going to be tough because the tuner is going to want to know what you have for injectors too.
