Default New Truck Need Help (wheel bearings, preventtive maintenance

i just bought a 2007 f250 xlt fx4 long bed with 180000 mile. i got it home and found out it needs the right front outer axle and both wheel bearings. any one have suggesting on what company or who to go threw to get the parts so that i know they can be trusted and not have to worry doing this again in the future?

also does any one have any reviews on the banks monster sports exhaust. and any one have any tips on things i should do to help prevent any problems down the road. it would be greatly appreciated. as for I'm a marine and don't get a whole of time to just tinker around with my truck i would like to do as much as i can while I'm on leave in a couple weeks.

A good set of gauges or a monitor of some sort will be a good starting point. It'd be nice to see the difference in temperature between oil and coolant. This will tell you what needs to be done now.

A coolant filter is a great idea too.

Banks does make a nice exhaust, but like everything else they sell it's overpriced. Though, they are a quality exhaust, I will give them that. It's about one of the only things I'd run from Banks, that and their intercoolers are pretty nice, other than that, Banks has nothing to offer me. Underpowered and overpriced. Great marketing skills.

As for your bearings, Ford would be a good choice, but I'm sure there are some good aftermarket units out there too, though I can't say I'm terribly familiar with them, as I've never had to do wheel bearings on this truck.

As for the rest of it, what do you use the truck for? Will it be a daily driver? Are you going to tow with it at all? What's your budget? Are you looking to add power now, or just preventative stuff to make it last.

Stay on top of oil and oil filter changes, and stay on top of fuel filter changes and draining the water separator. Only use Motorcraft or International fuel and oil filters. As for oil, you can search on here and read the preferences. Most use Rotella non synthetic, or T6 synthetic, Amsoil is a good choice, and valvoline premium blue 5w-40 synthetic is good too. Just stick around and do some reading, you'll learn a lot. Try using the search function at the top, since most of what you'll want to know has been answered at some point already. If you don't find what you're looking for, just ask, we're here to help. Welcome to DB!

I had both of my axles out in about 2 hours, it's pretty straight forward. I would recommend checking the status of your ball joints before tear down, it would suck having to get back in there. A machine shop can do the press work, shouldn't cost too much.

Remember this cliche when shopping for parts: you get what you paid for.

i appreciate the advice. I'm planning on using the truck as a daily driver but when i do get time off i will be using the truck to pull things occasionally. i would like to get a lithe bit of power added but not to terribly concerned with it just want the motor run well and not have any major problems out of it that could be avoided. I'm not really into wanting to be ble to smoke out my whole street or any thing like that.

"Smoking out the whole street" means you're either in the wrong gear (partially why I don't like the early converter lock on my Extreme tune), or your tuning sucks! Smoke at initial take off is almost unavoidable, but it should clean up quickly.

The Edge CS/CTS line is pretty popular, but it seems spendy. Isso Pro is a good gauge, too. Personally, I have a Scan GaugeII and Auto Meter Sport Comp EGT and fuel PSI, works pretty good so far.

so this may seem like a dumb question but do you have to have to buy a computer and hook it up to eh truck and then run the gauges to the computer or do you just buy the gauges and there is already a spot from the factory

Unless its an OBDII plug in it has to have a sending unit of some sort.
