Default 06 high pressure oil pump in 03?

I've got an 03 F250 Powerstroke with a 6.0L. The oil pump went out and the shop says it'll be 5 grand to fix it. I found an '06 high pressure oil pump at a salvage yard. Can I put an 06 pump in an 03? Looking around online it doesn't seem the same, but the guy at the salvage yard thought it was.

You can get an OEM for the 03 from the stealership for around $600.00. And if your half way mechanically inclined you could probably change it out yourself in a couple days. BTW I just picked one up the other day.
In my opinion 5k for just an HPOP replacement is robbery! Ask them if it comes with a large or small jar of vasaline.
This is an AWESOME group of guys here. Listen to what they have to say. And compair notes.
5k can go a LONG way if spent intelligently!

Dealing with a salvage yard is like dealing with a greasy, corner lot, used car salesman, you must know what you're working with. I will say he's half right, ok, a third right. Yes an 05 and up pump will fit into an 03, BUT, you need to change out EVERYTHING from the PUMP TO THE INJECTOR to make it work! No joke! The HPOP oiling system was changed for 2005 and the changes go into the cylinder heads.

As the Horesman said, $5K for an HPOP job sounds like robbery. Personally, if I were that far in, I'd delete the EGR cooler and change the oil cooler as well. I should have done my oil cooler last November when I did my EGR cooler delete.

I also agree that if you can work with basic hand tools, you can do this on your own in a few days. Keep us posted.

Oh yeah, welcome aboard!

In addition to all the parts to do the swap you also need to replace the rocker boxes for the newer style oil rails, if you had a late 04 it would still require rmoval of transmission or pull the motor to replace the branch tube. Get yourself the billet pump from "Diesel Site .com" and will not fail on you like the stocker, they are just over a grand but worth it, you should be able to do it yourself in a weekend.

yeah but you will be near 5k in other parts to make it work haha

my 03 f350 was my first diesel i do have mechanical back ground but i was even intimidated by the job. ill be honest here its not easy but not impossible the biggest pain is the back bolt on the turbo imo and aligning the exhaust pipe upon reinstall needs a second person. other than that its just standard mechanics if you can turn a wrench you can do it and once you get it done you will feel like you can do any repairs ever needed on your truck

some things to consider when doing this job because if you are anything like me you will kick your self for not doing them when the turbo was out the first time

while you are in there you should consider replacing
ipr screen
icp
icp pig tail
depending on what state you are in delete the egr or install a bullet proof egr cooler
oil cooler
recondition the turbo
update turbo drain and feed lines
blue spring mod
and a new problem part for me is the y pipe and up pipe

you could look at this two ways thats expensive or im making an investment i mean if its your only means of transportation at this point then you want it to last as long as you do

good luck in what ever you decide and if you do decide to replace it we will be here to walk you through it.

also if i were you i would not buy a used hpop unless you want to do the same job over in a few mo.

there is this website i found that has ford parts for super cheap if you are interested ill give you the info
