banks six gun
#11
Yeah I actually broke down and tried my friends six gun on his truck and it didn't really feel right to me.. I also broke down and tried my bully pup and set it to level "20" out of "100" and i noticed no change what so ever...
So I was like what the hell? So i set that thing to "100" and still didn't notice anything.. Dear god do not buy a bully dog, but i don't really have any other insight on the six gun then what i just said.

And my $500 SCT will out run it...
Banks does have some nice intercoolers, though I'm not a fan of the large tubing they use, since it actually slows down spool, though once you're up in the RPM's it can flow more (good for towing purposes, but not on the race track).
What'd that setup run you $$ if you don't mind me asking?

Hey there, I really am ignorant to all these other brands of tuners etc. I keep hearing about SCT and I don't even know what it is ! Just a tuner/chip ? Anyhow I went with banks because it seemed they had many years of testing under their belts, and their name was associated with quality products. Not that other products aren't ! Expensive, yes, the whole package ended up costing me about $3600.00. Incidentally, I've never had it to a track, but with a stopwatch it can hit 80 in about 12 seconds.

No.
The banks does ZERO for transmission. The 5R110 trans in our trucks is simply put, one of the best autos available in the light diesel market. The key to its ability to hold up to power is the fact we can tune it! Banks does nothing for trans tuning, so as you add further upgrades you're really stressing the trans.
The SCT line is just programmers. They have generic tuning on them too, but the key is that you can upload custom tunes on them. This is why a lot of 6.0 owners use them.
Banks doesn't interface with anything, it's not even really a true tuner. It's what I refer to as a fooler. It fools the PCM into adding more timing and fuel. Not the best, or the safest way to add power unfortunately. Instead of tuning it correctly Banks usually uses defueling or some other way of cutting power (not making as much power to begin with) to save stuff.
A couple key features of the SCT are that 1) you can have a tune written with the EGR function disabled, meaning if you delete the EGR on your 05-07 6.0, the SCT will turn the check engine light off. 2) it tunes the transmission. To my knowledge there are only a couple of others that even have the capability to access the TCM and make changes, Banks is not one of them. 3) If you ever upgrade your turbo or injectors later down the road, you're going to need the SCT anyways to get custom tunes so everything works correctly, no if's and's or but's about it.
With that said... not one product will please everyone. Is the banks setup that bad? Not really, but for most of us it's just too much money and you really can't take control of the tuning features like you can with an SCT. It's just a generic plug in programmer for the guy who wants to say his truck is tuned. Like I said before, the intercoolers are pretty nice, and probably one of the only items they sell that are competitively priced. Most of their other stuff is out of this world priced.
I used to joke that I was going to put banks stickers on the side of my truck to make it a sleeper haha. The thing that really kills me is all of that cool stuff they do, but don't ever sell any to the public.
The best thing Banks has going for them is their marketing team. They could sell a ketchup popsicle to a lady in white gloves.
