Default lol another oppertunity to blow money... new problem blk smoke...

So today while driving I noticed my exhaust wasn't making the bad a$$ "wraps/rattle" it normally makes at half throttle so I put the peddle to the floor and it was waaaaay under power pretty much didn't change my acceleration at all... Thought it was weird but figured I'd floor it from a stop since a red light was approaching. Light turns green I floor it and I noticed I'm DUMPING black smoke as if some vigilante switched my motor with a 12v Cummins. While I was at work. Pull the car over an scan for codes and got nothing other than my P0401 for the egr. I turn the car off and start it 10 min later and it drove fine for about 2-3 WOT runs then back to running like my turbo was removed and dumping black smoke

Any input would be great

Truck is a 03 with 96k miles new hpop icp ipr icp pig tail and blue spring mod only mod is a straight pipe I have removed the front piece of the intake in hopes to gain some mpg but I'll be putting it back because I feel like I lost mpg with that. Ficm was checked last mo and checked out perfect the two batteries are both brand new. I have recently bought a new oil cooler and bullet proof egr cooler. Egr was cleaned last week and the only thing different is my speedo stopped working yesterday and abs light came on

Thanks guys

U really think the speed sensor could be causing he smoke? I guess any thing is possible and you know better than I do. I'm gonna check right when I get off work tomorrow and let you all know the verdict thank you mdub

Awe dude, come on! You have to do the math before you give up on the snorkle being off. If you're hot ******* around town because of your new straight pipe noise, well duh you lost mpg, but not because of the snorkel being off.

I pegged 18 mpg on 35s going from Reno to Lemoore last weekend, no snorkle and an EMBARRASSINGLY dirty AiRaid filter. Get this issue resolved, then run a couple of tanks through it not driving like a mad man.

Oh yeah, the OP, because you didn't pop a code, I would rule out injectors and FICM. Therefore a faulty speed sensor could be the issue.

No, not really. But try it anyways.

Your issues sound exactly like mine did when my EBP sensor was acting up. Do you have a way to monitor that?

No I don't have a way to monitor it. Where is it located and typically how much is this part. Also what does it stand for? Pep boys has the sensor for 27$ so I'm just gonna replace it and see how it works out

Pep boys has the speed sensor I mean

The EBP is exhaust backpressure sensor. Coming off of your drivers side exhaust manifold there should be a stainless tube threaded in there, follow it up and you'll see the EBP sensor plugged in the top of it. Take the sensor out, and take that stainless tube out. Clean both really well. They will be gummed up with all sorts of crap. Reinstall and try again. Check over the wire harness for the sensor too. Mine was actually chaffing and caused it to do this. My boost would come up normal and as soon as I hit cruising speed boost would fall to zero and smoke would roll.

A gummed up EGR code could also cause this, a failing VGT solenoid on the turbo or even the turbo just starting to stick.

Ok sounds good. Get some pipe cleaners or something you can force into the EPB sensor tube. You'll see what I mean when you get it off, tough to get inside and clean it. Maybe soak it in something like purple power. The sensor should be easy to clean.

Well replacing the sensor on the top of the rear diff didn't do a thing I haven't checked the ebp sensor yet. Any other ideas why my abs light is on and my Speedo isn't working?
