@mdub: ive had this code for a while now and hasnt really caused any noticable issues with the truck would it be typical for it to all of a sudden cause this problem? today when driving i turned it on and floored it it shifted at a higher rpm and stayed until i turned it off. when coasting however it didnt do anything, i expected the rpms to jump like in my dads v10 excursion, but it did hold a high rpm when i put my foot down and let go.
@therobenator: i forgot to mention i replaced all the intercooler boots with BD diesel ones less than 2 mo ago just for the hell of it
@bobfbigman: no i havent done that. but i will tomorrow as soon as i get off work and get home. ill let you know the out come
thanks guys all this input is great. i really dont wanna take it to the dealership for a diagnostics

Have you tried to do a computer reset? undo the ground on both batteries and let it sit for a couple minutes, then /making sure grounds aren't on battery/ touc the ground cable to the pos on one of the batteries, this makes sure there is no stored energy. Hold the ground on there for at least 10 seconds. Then make sure everything is clear and hook the batteries back up and restart it to see what happens.

I'm not sure I follow your last description there. You floor it and the RPM's stay high? When your costing it didn't do anything? What do you mean?

When I floor it after pushing in the o/d button it shifts at higher rpms the rpms will stay high until press the o/d button again then it will shift. If I'm coasting or just driving normal and press the button nothing will initially happen till the rpms get higher. What I expected to happen when coasting and pressing the button is the rpms to go from 2k to ~4k basically down shift instantly. I don't know how a diesel is supposed to react with o/d so I can't say if it's right or wrong

No what you're describing is normal, I got you now. When you push the button to activate tow haul, it uses the same gears, but it will hold them longer before shifting and also hold them longer before downshifting. It will also keep the converter locked up longer. When you're just crusing down the road and push the button, you probably wont notice an immediate change, until you get on the throttle or something.
It's not an O/D light though like a Ford gas job with the same button, it's just our "tow/haul" mode. You still use all the same gears. It doesn't lock out O/D or anything. Every gear is still available like normal, just changes shift points and torque converter action.
