Question White "smoke"...no smell

OK...I'm about ready to shoot this truck...if it were a horse, I would have.

Truck: F250 2004 6.0 Powerstroke about 90,000 on it.

The turbo "fart" that I posted about earlier is doing OK.

Now we've got white "smoke"....there's no smell to it that we can tell.

This just started yesterday on our way to town, ran fine, then started with the white "smoke", Got to the hardware store...then the dang truck wouldn't start at all. Spent a "nice" 90 minutes in the hardware store parking lot. We checked the air filter, fuel pump was working, check fuel filters...looked clean, check fuses..all good. Finally with the help of starting fluid we got it going...then we added some "heet" to the fuel tank, which was at about 1/2 a tank and limped it home...it ran rough for about 10 miles then smoothed out...no more white smoke. OK..thinking bad fuel.....now this morning, start truck...at first clean exhast for about 2-5 minutes...then here came the white "smoke"...billowing out. Truck sat there idling (sp) for about 20 minutes and now it's clear again....Till hubby reved up the truck and now it's blowing white "smoke" again...

What is going on??? This truck is ready to make me

TIA

JamieD

ETA: No mods on the truck.

Probably a ruptured EGR cooler. Pull the EGR valve out and see if it's wet down in the intake manifold.

Does the smoke evaporate? Could be water vapor which could indicate blown head gasket or cracked head. Could be wrong, matter of fact I hope I am wrong for your sake...

Out of all the times I've blown headgaskets, which has been a few, I only push coolant out, no white smoke. The ONE time I did have white smoke, was when I BLEW those things to kingdom come. It was leaking so bad that it would stumble and almost die when pulling up to a stop sign, and you could hear the coolant splashing on the pavement under me. When I finally shut the truck down, it sat there and hydrolocked on it's own. It was leaking HARD.

Cracked head will typically have coolant mixing in with the fuel and oil.

Pull the EGR valve and see if its wet with coolant, easiest way to find out if the cooler is the cause. keep in mind if the EGr cooler blew it was most likely caused by a clogged oil cooler not letting enough water through.

Sorry...had to go to town, since we didn't finish our town trip from yesterday.

Got the EGR value out...it's black, but don't see any coolant.

Buddy had the same problem and it ended up being a bad injector... Take a real good smell of the smoke... Put your face up near it and see if it burns your eyes... Don't go inhaling it and getting all loopy

My buddies you could barely smell it... So he ran it until it got real bad and smoked everyone out!!!

It was wet...so that means the EGR cooler..right? How do you go about checking the oil cooler? And what is this "EGR delete" I keep seeing all over this section of the board?

Where we live there are no emissons test.

If it was wet in the intake then yes your egr cooler is bad... Since you don't have emissions testing I would delete it...

As for your oil cooler, you need to moniter the eot and ect... If the delta is 15* then your oil cooler is clogged...

Have you been losing coolant?
