Default She died!!

On my to work this I stopped at the store. When I out got I could hear she wasn't running right. So when I got back on road I noticed black smoke coming from stack. Not usual. Only smokes on a hard take off. Then when I would push accelrator, I had absolutely no power. Only got worse the farther I drove, as did the smoke. When I came stop light she died, and wouldn't start. Tried and tried.
The truck is an 03 f250, with the 6.0. I have put in the edge tuner and a single 4" from turbo to 5" stack. Only mods done. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried reading codes yet? How many miles on the truck? Any work done recently?

Black smoke means it was getting fuel...

I would also remove the Edge completely and go back to stock until you get this resolved. Try reading codes first though.

Does it still turn over fine? When you're turning it over can you see the low pressure oil gauge move on the dash? It might take a few seconds to see it move.

Yes, stills turns over just fine. And yes the gauge does still move. But like you said it does take a sec or two. I have some mechanics stopping by today to pull codes if any.

Ok well at least you still have low oil pressure then. Let us know what codes you find if any.

See if they can monitor some things when cranking too. Check ICP desired vs ICP actual. ICP stands for Injection Control Pressure. Desired is what the PCM wants, and actual is what is really happening. The truck needs 525psi ICP min to fire. Also keep an eye on IPR % duty cycle while doing this, if it keeps going up and and up and up towards 85% and ICP desired is increasing, you might have a high pressure oil leak.

I would pull the IPR valve and check th screen, kind of sounds like the HPOP died.

Bob, if that was the case, what would cause all the black smoke? That's what I was trying to wrap my head around. Just an incomplete burn?

Good point, normally I would say EGR valve hung open creating the smoke but the truck should still run, these trucks will run without the intake elbo not hooked up. My thinking is if a HPOP is not putting out enough presure it could cause the injector to compress the fuel too slow so it basically slows the timing up causing the fuel not to burn completely, maybe I am over thinking it.

It would be easy enough to detect with a good scanner though...
