Default Replaced STC fitting now hard to crank

I'm working on a 2005 VT365 (6.0) that's in a IC school bus.

After replacing the STC fitting the engine is hard to crank, like it has half dead batteries even though they are brand new. Hooking up a charger does nothing. Could the gear on the HPOP not have meshed correctly with the drive gear when I installed it? When I mounted the HPOP it sat flush with the base and there didn't appear to be any binding issues. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ken

If the base is flush then you are OK. Was this the only work done on the bus? How many times has it cranked over?

The STC fitting was the only thing replaced. It's been turned over a dozen or so times. The starter drags like there isn't enough voltage but it has two new fully charged batteries in it. I also swapped in another starter and it does the same thing.

Man its hard to say, might have to go back in there to make sure all is well, just hoping there isn't a rag or something in there. Have you been the only one working on it? remember one guy had a problem like this only to find out his buddy added 15 quarts of oil for an oil change because he thought the oil was drained and it wasn't, it was hydrolocked to a point it would barely turn over.

I'm the only one that worked on it. I made sure that there wasn't anything in there before I started putting it back together. It's just really throwing me for a loop.

Did the HPOP come out of it?

Do you have access to a scanner? Monitor ICP desired vs. ICP actual, and IPR duty % too.

Why was the STC fitting replaced? Just maintenance or was it having issues before?

Maybe pull the belt to make sure none of the accessories was locked up,

Yes, I pulled the HPOP. The STC was loose and caused the engine to die while driving. I replaced it with an updated one piece fitting that international says will fix the problem for good. Before it would spin over fast but not crank, now it drags really bad. Is there any way to install the HPOP in a way that would cause it bind the whole engine up?

Not to my knowlege, its more or less a go-no go installation, it would be real hard to get the gears to sit on top of one another. I'd pull the belt and then put a jumper cable from ground on battery to block to make sure its grounded good. What kind of charger are you using? these things take alot of juice

That's what I thought. I'll give that a try. The charger is a Solar 480, it will normally start a 7.3/6.0/DT466/MaxxForce 7/ without batteries.
