Water in Fuel light

Water in Fuel light
I have a 07 F250 6.0 and Friday on my way home from work the light came on. I drained the water fuel separator when I got home. Took it out for a long drive and the light never came back on. But today "Sunday" I went to the store and it popped back up. How often should that be drained?

Well I took your advice and got a can of carb cleaner and drained it again into a mason jar. Used about 1/3 of the can and decent amount of rust came out along with some water/fuel. Sprayed until it came out clean. What would of that came from? sorry if its a newbie question. (first diesel)

this area of the fuel pump is the suction side so it just accumulates there, Make it a point to at least clean it out every oil change and fuel filter change. Most people only pull the plug when light comes on which is not often enough, it can hold up to 100cc of water so it can sit in there a while before light comes on .

It can be just debri on the sensor, you can also remove that whole cover as long as you are carefull not to tear the gasket, it is amazing at the crud that can build up in there that doesn't come out when you do a filter change. It is a good idea to remove the whole pump/filter assembly from the frame rail and give the inside a good cleaning every now and then, maybe 50k miles is what I am doing, took it off at 250k and I was shocked at how bad the crud was in there.
