Idt I've seen anybody put anything about brakes in here. Here's what's been happening the two calipers on the front have broke apart on separate occasions. The pistons have just cracked in half an broke off. The one on front drivers side did it two months ago an passenger side did it yesterday. Has anyone heard of this?
I've replaced the back ones already cause they seized before.

 

Yup at 50k miles I had to replace everything in the front brakes. Calipers, rotors, and pads. At 65k the rears followed and I just redid the rears again at 95k. Cracked multiple pistons on mine. Can't justify the cost of the SSBC stuff though.

 

Well okay it's not me then. How come they just brake up like that?

 

I went 180K on my original pads/discs/calipers. Just changed the pads for another 180+...Wish I could understand what you guys are doing to tear them up like that....

 

changed pads at 120k, didn't need them but made me feel better.

 

My front calipers just seized up, I'm guessing from the crap I am forced to drive through in the winter... they were so bad one pad went metal to metal and actually was thin enough to slide in between the rotor and the caliper. I went to back out of a parking spot at the dentists office and it locked the front wheel up. I was dragging my front right tire across the pavement. I actually had to put it in 4x4 to pop that thing out of there. Stopped at Napa on the way home, grabbed all new brakes, went right home and fixed it all. Had to use the e-brake for all my stops. Slid into the garage door pulling in the driveway haha. That was at 50k. I think what really happens is the calipers stick/seize and then from that they generate so much heat they end up cracking the pistons. Including the one's that came on the truck, I'm on my 5th caliper in the back. Just had everything replaced under Napa lifetime warranty though, so at least I didn't have to pay for it this time. A buddy of mine who is a Ford tech says he sees the cracked pistons a lot on trucks that are worked hard, like a plow truck or a lot on the f550's and such.

 

I think it defiantly has to do with cold an snow. I've had that same spitting out pads was always back brakes that did that.

 

I just realized (again) you're in upstate NY too. Our roads suck around here in the winter time. I hate salt.
