05 F250 6.0 head studs, egr delete, 4" exhaust, reman ficm, 159000 miles, Bought the truck in August 2011, been one thing after another really has never ran right. Have replaced 4 injectors, Hpop twice, Dummy Plugs, Stand pipes, ICP, IPR, Oil Cooler, Low Oil pressure relief Valve twice, Injector control Module. The truck does not want to start cold after cranking its *** off and leave the starter turning it will finally take of but will usally throw a tbd fault I think thats right you get it after cranking for so long. After you get it started it will start the rest of the pretty good, unless you have drove for about 1/2 hour or so then it doesnt want to start hot unless you crank and crank. blowing white smoke and black smoke. Dealer isa scratching head, no codes 2000psi oil pressure, Any help would be great

2000psi of oil pressure? While cranking? It needs 525psi of oil pressure to fire, but when you're driving and you go WOT, it should go to 4000psi. However, cold start, but easier starting when warm doesn't really sound like a high pressure oil leak.

When you initially crank to get it started, do you get smoke then?

How old are your batteries? I would have them load tested personally. If one is weak, replace both.

After that, test that FICM anyways. Where is the "reman" from? A Ford unit? It will just fail again. There are other, better, less expensive ways to fix them. We'll get to that after.

I would also be interested to put it on a scanner and monitor the following: ICP desired, ICP actual, IPR duty cycle %.

I can't believe it's needed two HPOPs in that amount of miles. The dummyplugs/standpipes was an updated design, so I can see that. IPR basically needs a replace anytime the HPOP is replaced, due to debris etc. The low oil pressure relief valve... odd.

TBD ? Can you try and get the code for that? TBC maybe? Thats the trailer brake control, which shouldn't effect this stuff.

Ok, just re-read this, and it sounds like maybe you DO have a high pressure oil leak somewhere. Could be simple, like o-rings on the injectors.

Who is doing the work on it? Sounds like it's snow-balling from improper repairs. I hate HATE HATE when a god damn dealer can't even diagnose one of them. WTF are we paying them for?

I would do a High presure system air test, sounds like you have a high presure oil leak but with all the parts you replaced it only leaves one thing it couls be if its not the IPR screen, and that is the Branch Tube which do fail but not as often and can be real hard to diagnose. With the air presure test you can take both valve covers off and even the HPOP cover to find out exactly what is leaking so you are not buying a bunch of parts.

1. crank and smoke like its flooded
2. News Batteries
3.Ficm 48 volts key on, 49. volts cranking
4. 2 hpops in 7000 miles
5. TBC fault when extended cranking makes no sense
6. Dealership says scanner shows good oil pressure
7. Since Aug 5400.00 in repairs still runs like crap
8. Rienke ford Big Dealership in Lima Oh they have like 5 or 6 Ford dealerships in the surrounding counties. But cant seem to fix it

Dealership Just replaced the IPR said the screen was sucked in full of crap and replaced the oil cooler said it was full so they flushed the system 7 times to get all the crap out and charged 1800.00 and it still does not run right.

How long have you had it back? Did you drive it home? Are you capable of trying some work on your own if we tell you what needs to be done?

2 hpops in 7k, is fuggin absurd. I sure hope they warrantied the failed one. I've seen the TBC fault before, can't recall wtf it is, I'll look it up at work tomorrow.

They say good oil pressure... as in good low pressure, good high pressure? What is good? We need numbers!!! Ohio has a huge crowd of powerstroke guys, lets see if we can't get you in touch with someone who has AE and can scan that thing for a couple beers or something, get some real info.

The IPR screen being sucked in happens a lot with a recent HPOP change actually.

Smoke when cranking is not a high pressure oil issue however... Smoke could be an injector or several. Bob probably has a few more ideas for you. It's past my bed time, I'll chime back in tomorrow.

We can help you get squared away though.

Had it back about a week, yes drove it home, Yes I Can work on it have changed a couple injectors, water pump and crank sensor.
Yes they warrantied the hpop they say i have good high oil pressure not sure of numbers they said 2000psi not sure if that was cranking or idleing

Have you personnally removed the IPR after the last HPOP was put in?? if not then do it, it is very common for the screen to get clogged shortly after a HPOP replacement, especially if the pump came apart, You don't have to replace the whole thing unless the screen id damaged, normally you can clean them up and be good. You can but the adapter to do the airleak test yourself, it goes in where the ICP sensor is, I think Ford sells them for $30 or you can get them on ebay for less, there is a guy that has a coplete setup on there with guage and adapters to check fuel presure too all for $89, well worth it to diagnose it yourself. I still think you could have a cracked branch tube but they are a pain to change so Lets get it diagnosed properly first.

the first hpop was changed in nov 2011 the dealership replaced it again last week when they did IPR and oil cooler

I would still pull the IPR because they get clogged after a HPOP replacement, seen it happen alot with different people on here. Replacing the HPOP branch tube is a big job so dealer might be trying to do everything but that, do you own leak test so dealer doen't take more of your money.

Yes I agree, see this all the time. IPR is clogged after HPOP replacement, happens all too often. I'd pull that and see what it looks like. Should be able to monitor this too if you have access to a scanner or a buddy with one.
