Its a pretty easy process to change out, going to do this once I get the rest of parts needed, Remove turbo, pedestal, intake, both valve covers. Remove cast iron pump cover and remove HPOP, supply tube, oil rails and up pipes. simply replace all components with the 05 and up parts. then run new wire for the ICP sensor on pass side. The important thing to remember is to always match the head gaskets to the HEAD, not the block, the reason for this is that the 18mm-20mm adapters are made so only the size for the heads sits above the block so whatever size the head needs for dowels then that is what keeps the gasket alighned. Keep in mind when you buy a gasket kit for 18mm it also comes with the 18mm-20mm adapter as wel as 18mm straight dowels, same with the 20mm kits come with adapters and 20mm dowels, plus both kits come with new stand pipes and stock rod bolts that are only good for scrap. Tousley Ford sells the gasket kits for $137 a side, if you are using studs tell them that and they will take the bolts out to save on shipping. Now that we are totally off subject back to the point, just make sure everything on top of the head is compatable before doing the swap.

I installed the slamm bolts anyway but I used blue locktite on them and only torqued to 10ftlbs, not the 28 that was called for. Injector hold downs and glow plugs would be the major concern for compatability. You can swap the high presure oiling systems but you have to use every component of the system, I'm finally going to be a convert and put the 05 system on my truck, I have the pump, rails, standpipes sitting in the garage so why not? Also there is a difference in the lower block dealing with the upper oil pan windage tray.
Yeah, not sure what I was thinking there. They do pass through, you're right. I need to get a copy of the ARP instructions again somewhere for when I do mine.

My point is, it can be done, but it's not a simple matter of R&R. The 03 specific parts must be robbed and re-installed on the 06 heads to make this work. Just like putting an 05 HPOP in an 03 block, EVERYTHING related to the 05 HPOP must also be put in. Doable, but extensive.
I believe the entire casting was changed from the earlier heads to the new one's, but I could be wrong. I think the webbing and everything is different. You're right though, just need to swap everything over.
