Default intercooler issue help

On my 05 f250 with egr cooler valve delete arp.head studs straight pipe and sct with idp tune i was doing about 120 down the hwy when it blew the clamp on the intercooler tube on the passenger side! It blew the clamp on the turbo side of pipe! Any reason why it could have done this?

Yes, either over boost or more likely the clamp and/or boot is weak. The Crankcase Ventalation (CCV) allows oily gases to enter the IC system, this oil puddles up on the inside of the boots/pipes. Over time, oil will weaken the boots. The boots are made out of silicone, and oil will disinergrate the boots to the point of blowing out or slipping off the piping.

You can search out "CCV mod" to prevent the oil gases from entering the IC system.

To fix, you may need new boots and/or clamps depending on if the clamps were over torqued. Clean the boot and metal piping/turbo with a degreaser like acetone or Purple Power (let dry), then when you go to put on the boot, spray some hair spray on the inside of the boot and re-install.

Ok thanks for the info! I did see a little bit of oil on the turbo pipe were the boot sits! Will a hose clamp work or a certain kind?

Make sure the soft tube is installed all the way on. This means it's covering the first bulge in the aluminum tube and butts all they up to the last bulge. To insure it stays on, tighten the clamp nut until the spring is fully compressed and then tighten the nut another 1/4 turn. Then put another nut on the clamp and use a 2nd wrench to tighten this nut against the first. some call this a jamb nut.
My tube blew off after I replaced my turbo at 80,000 miles. It's been on for 10,000 miles now, so I think I can call this problem solved.

P.S. Don't forget to do all the clamps.

This isn't all too uncommon. Read LargeMarge's posts on here, he was having this issue and couldn't get it to stop. I posted a couple fixes inside that thread. Just do a search for the posts from "LargeMarge"...
