Default need some professional help on tuners

I have a Guy down the street that has a predator tuner and only wants 200 for it and am debating on picking it up. But want opinions. I can't afford an edge or act right now cause they're expensive and figured this would be a good way to go for now due to price. Has anyone had major problems? Only thing done to my truck is a straight pipe. I have done 3 new injectors in the past 2 months and batteries also

Keep saving for the SCT and some custom tunes. If you look back through past threads there has to be like a dozen about programmers for these trucks. The other programmers you mentioned are really not the way to go on our trucks, they don't change the tuning on the transmission. They also are pretty much useless if you decide to put a different turbo or bigger injectors ect, you will need some custom tuning for that. Look at this long term, big picture. You can spend 200 on the Diablo and you will have an increase in power, but it could be doing bad things to your trans. which would cost alot down the road. The overwhelming opinion on the 6.0 is SCT with custom tunes.

They're often referred to as Diablo Pukinators for all the headgaskets they've popped.

You don't have enough to buy an SCT? How much did you pay for your truck? How much is a headgasket job? What's a transmission replacement cost?

Does $500 really seem like a lot more than $200 to save most of these parts???

FWIW, I've picked up several SCT hand held tuners (X-cal 2's mostly) for under $200... like $150 price range. Buy a used one off one of the boards, make sure whatever it came off of was returned to stock, and that is has some "unlocks" left, and you're good to go. Get the tuner, order some custom tunes, same money spent, but you're MILES ahead.

Default Edge

I use edge cs, I have no issues with shifting! In fact it shifts quite well. I have heard some had issues? But I have had none to date.

i'm looking at the Edge Evolution. Just curious if anyone else uses it. Not a bad price for it. Just don't wanna screw myself over in the long run

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

i like how it also monitors the truck at all times with temps and everything

SCT livewire does the same thing. Except you can get custom tunes and save your transmission.

If you're dead set on Edge products, contact Bill @ PHP (he's on here once in a while too), he can custom tune SOME of the Edge stuff, but not all of it. However, he is the only one to my knowledge who can. With an SCT you have dozens of choices for tune writers, and many custom applications for when you go bigger on injectors and turbo etc...

Back in the hay-day, Edge used to make some good power. Similar to what some of the early custom tunes for the SCT could (even SCT tunes have come a long way), however since there was complete lack of control over the trans, a lot of guys were destroying transmissions. They let Edge know what was going on... and they listened. Just not in the way we would hope as diesel performance people. They just backed the power off of the modules. So now the new Edge stuff just has sub-par power to what it used to have, in order to try and get a little trans life back out of it.

A hot tuned SCT truck's transmission will most likely last longer than a mild tuned Edge truck.

Whatever you choose to get, I highly recommend custom tuning, it's what really lets us take control of what is going on in there. It allows us to safely make more power and let our transmission keep up with the power.

400hp with no trans tuning is enough to destroy this trans....

with proper trans tuning, this same trans is living up to 600ish rwhp behind 6.4 motors.
