Default Bad Turbo?

My buddy has an 03 6.0. The thing wouldn't boost above 11 psi and stayed the same tone the entire time. He took it to a shop and they said it was a bad up pipe and that an EGR delete would fix it. So he and i did the delete on it and while we had the turbo out, we decided to clean it. we sanded the crap out of it and made it look like a brand new turbo on the inside. when we got it all back together the thing at WOT wouldn't go above 2psi. before we did any of the work, he had a code for low boost pressure. could it be a bad VGT?

When you say sanded, do you mean just cleaning or SANDING?? you don't want to change the clearence on the outside of the vanes, if you were talking about the actuator ring that is ok to smooth it out. could just be the turbo actuator on the turbo, the part where the electrical plug is, or could be one of the boots is cracked, take them all off and roll them between your hands looking for cracks. sometimes they look fine until you roll them in your hands and the cracks will show up

Could also be a dirty EBP sensor...

Tried reading the codes?

Mike, I know the last time my truck was reflashed back in 04 they did away with the EBP sensor for any imput, it was stated that they were having too many problems with them and they were using other imputs instead, do you have any data on what this flash was called and if there has been an update to this, I never let the dealer reflash after that because a buddy of mine had a different flash done and he lost 3mpg because of it.

I had read about that somewhere else too, but I don't have any details on it. I know for a fact mine is still a function, because when the wires chaffed for it, my boost would fall to 0 going down the road. I monitored EBP function and it was going from min value to max value every second... making the turbo do some really funny things.

Guy at alligator performance thought it was the VGT actuator. I only cleaned off all the carbon build up on the ring and surface. Plug looked fine and boots were all good.

Yeah definitely getting fuel and no air.

Checked over all of the intercooler connections? Sure it's not just a blown boot or anything? Might be worth looking at. They blow apart on the bottom sometimes, take them all off and inspect them. Not uncommon. Could also have a cracked up-pipe or something.

What style EGR delete was used, or what brand? They often can crack at the y-pipe section as well, which an EGR delete wouldn't get rid of.

Sinister kit was used. I double checked everything and can't find anything. Cracked y pipe should result in soot everywhere which there isn't.
