Default Oil Pressure

Looking for some more education here. How much oil pressure should my truck be running? Does the hpop deliver a constant pressure or does that fluctuate based on different load conditions? How much pressure is required to activate the injectors? Thanks.

Are you talking low pressure or high pressure?

The HPOP will fluctuate pressure. It needs 525psi to fire the truck up, and will run up near (and sometimes above) 4000psi to fire the injectors. This would be WOT. You can monitor any of this with a scanner, or even the livelink software using an SCT.

They need about 450 to fire the injector and depending in driving conditions can get to 3000 psi+ i am not sure what psi the low end runs but it should be standard for most motors.

Low pressure comes from pump in oil pan and lubricates bearings etc. like any other engine? HPOP is for injectors, turbo, etc?

HPOP is for injectors only, it feeds high pressure oil down the rails and to the injectors, that's it, everything else is low pressure.

Hmm, not sure what the min is supposed to be, but it's regulated to 75psi max. The coffee table book has a lot of really good pics and explanation of how everything is fed too.

Maybe he's referring to the factory service manual, or Chiltons. Always a good starting point. I could be wrong...
