Default 05 turbo removal questions

I was wondering how hard it was to pull the turbo off an 05 and if there's anything I need to watch out for as I am taking it off like orings and such, and what is the best thing to use to clean em out? Break cleaner the best, I know a lot of people use it for a lot of things on diesels so I figured it wouldn't be any different.

Pretty straightforward. You'll have two bolts in front horizontal to the ground, and one in the back on the drivers side that is vertical, that one is typically the challenging one, just use the right set of sockets/extensions and you'll get it. I come at it from the passenger side (lay on top of the motor with a blanket) and go over the downpipe with the ratchet and down to the bolt. Once you get your position set, it's cake. You can get it out yourself in no time if you know what you're doing. Still pretty easy though, just take your time. I've posted more detailed instructions probably 2 or 3x this week in other threads, just read around a little!

Quite honestly, you will want to remove that stuff. It's not really messy, just open the filters, and the oil drains down pretty good. The diesel can make a little mess, but it's not anything real serious. After you remove the filter housings, there is the tall plastic part that goes down the middle of the filter, it's held on with a torx screw. Actually there are 3 screws visible, but only one needs to be removed, it's the one furthest back. Then it turns about 1/8, if even that, and comes right out.

Take the little extra time to remove the filter housings. Nothing will get banged up if you do it that way. The turbo is kinda akward to get out, and it's because it's heavy. Well, I have tennis elbow in both arms, so it was for me.

You'll need a 10mm socket for the turbo hold down bolts, and a 7/16 deep socket for the clamps. I think the torx was T20 or T25.

Good luck bro. It's not bad.

I don't remove any of that stuff when I yank it out.
