tuner
i was thinking about buying a sct SF3 tuner for my 2005 F250 6.0l. Is this a good choice? Also some of the the tuners say they can turn off the egr and or the egr light, so my question is if it can turn off the egr system do i really need to buy and egr delete system or can i just turn it off with the tuner? My truck is completely stock so this is the first thing im thinkin of buying for it if its a good choice. Also is there any certain tunes i should have loaded its mostly just a daily driver truck and dont do to much towing and when i do its not real heavy stuff.

Yes it is a good choice, an even better choice would be to buy custom tunes for the sf3 after you buy it or buy it with them already on it. It will turn off the EGR valve and the CEL that comes with unplugging the valve. It does NOT mean you dont have to get an EGR delete. The tuner will shut the valve but coolant still flows through the EGR cooler and can still rupture and is where most of the problems come from.

Actually the EGR valve itself can still blow open too. The only real fix is to weld the cooler shut or just delete the thing right out of there.
SCT is the only one that can shut that light off, definitely get custom tunes with it. Tunes are up to you, but I would be skeptical about loading some real hot tunes until you do studs and the EGR delete.

Depends if you can turn wrenches or not, your call. It's not really a "difficult" job, it's more or less basic tools, it will be time consuming though. Do you have the ability to do it with the cab off? That's the easiest way to do it.
As for studs... IMO, it would be a waste of time to just drop studs in on the gaskets already there. Some have done it and I think it's a joke. I would never tear that far in without going right through it. Get the heads to a machine shop, get them decked, pressure checked, magnafluxed (checked for cracks) etc. Use NEW OEM gaskets, you'll need to figure out which size heads you have on (18mm or 20mm dowels) and go from there.
Just do as much research as possible. The more the better.

It's do-able cab on, just tighter work area and you'll have to take more stuff apart. There's a few ways to skin the cat so to speak with it. One method doesn't work for everyone!
I may take a day or two, but I try to answer everyone's questions right here! Just keep reading and asking away man.
