Default used sct question

So Ive got a chance to get a used sct 3000 for $175. He said it is unlocked but it has custom tunes.(What ive read 3000 comes without tunes and you have to have them make them for you). He said that the tunes were loaded from innovative, I think. Anyways he traded a guy for it that had a 2004 and he has a 2006 and it wouldnt work because the somethin(cant remeber what its called) was different. He said I could try it out before I buy it to see if it would work without contacting the company and having to pay to have it linked to my truck. My question is do you think $175 is worth it if it works and my other question is do you think $175 is worth it if I have to contact the company? Hoping to try it tomorrow so quick responses would be sweet!

You will have to have your own tunes put in for your strategy. But the sct is worth it i dnt know about that model but i got my X3 for the same price. And then got my tunes

Thats the word I was lookin for(strategy). Well if the tunes he picked were good could I just have them change the strategy to match mine or would I still have to pay for all new tunes. Ive heard that sometimes you luck out and the strategy is the same. In the unlikely event that our strategy is the same would I be able to use the tunes? How much do you think I would be looking at if I got it and had to have all new tunes loaded on it?

Just plan on getting new tunes. The likelyhood of you two even having the same strategy... well not impossible, but unlikely. Even if you do, the tunes are still written for that truck, ie, it's mods, it's tire sizes, auto or manual, 4x4 or 2x4 etc... just plan on worst case, get new tunes.

Innovative charges $165 for 3 tunes. There are other options too. Matt @ Gearhead has some good tuning, as does Doug @ GoGo. Any of those three are good choices, but you can call each and see what their prices are and see who you like the best.

Ok. So the question now is- Is it still worth $175 knowing I will have to pay for new tunes?

Well I stopped and got the cash to pay the guy then called him to go get it. He told me over the phone that he had tried it on his truck the night before and caused it to not start and he had to call inovative so he could get his truck to start. Then he tried to sell me a bully dog 3 stage chip. So needless to say I didnt get it. Started adding it up. Buy his for 175(who knows if it still had unlocks left) then 165 to get it programmed then the additional cost to buy guages. I said forget it and im just gonna save my pennies and get a livewire. Thanks for all the help tho guys.
