Default 06' F-350. 6.0L blowing white smoke

My 06' F-350 is using radiator fluid and blowing white smoke occasionally (mostly when first started). I searched past post but didnt get any GOOD answers to my problems.

It still runs good and has plenty of power. Im thinking its the EGR valve/cooler. Could it be a head gasket?? I know its best to replace head bolts with studs but this can be expensive. It has NEVER ran hot! It has no Mods other than Cat conveter remover!

I wanna delete the EGR either way. Seems like the Sisnter kit is a good one. Whats the best EGR delete kit??

I also see many people talking about a oil filter screen. Where on the truck is this located?? I want to replace it when I do EGR delete. Where is best place to buy the oil filter screen?

An EGR delete is a good idea, as well as a coolant filter.

Are you sure it's coolant and not fuel? Next time when you start the truck go back there and see what you smell. Sweet like coolant, or rough and burns your eyes like fuel?

Sinister is fine, there are other similar kits on ebay without the bling for 1/2 the price though.

As for oil filter screen... I'm guessing you're referring to the updated HPOP screen, it's like $15. I know bulletproof diesel sells them, so does your local ford dealer.

Mdub707- I cranked truck today and it didnt have any white smoke! Didnt smell like raw fuel though. I felt sure the white smoke was actualy steam since Im losing coolant. Any ideas??

and yes I was talking about thr HPOP screen thanks for your info!

I have never heard of the coolant filter before. Where is a good place to purchase?? Is it difficult to install??

I see on the forum that you seem to prefer SCT tuners. Im thinking of buying the livewire. Im thinking it will read EGT's??? Have you had any experiences with the SCT wireless tuner?? is it worth the money??

Thanks for ALL the advice. Im no mechanic but I have a lot of common sense about this stuff so im trying to save myself some $$$$$!

No white smoke today? Where do you live, what's the outside temp there? If you're losing coolant then there is definitely an issue somewhere, possibly an EGR cooler on it's way out?

The HPOP screen P/N is: 3C3Z-6C683-AB It is a stainless mesh over the old fiber mesh. A lot of the fiber one's just blew apart sending shards into the HPOP.

Coolant filter options, you can get from dieselsite.com or sinisters setup. You can just google sinsiter diesel. Same thing, Sinister has a lot of blue anodized parts for more "bling", the dieselsite setup is a little simpler, just a polished aluminum filter holder. I have a dieselsite on mine, I like it, a few others here have the sinister and they like it too. Personal preference here. They are super easy to install, 20 minutes tops, including drinking a beer.

SCT or nothing in my book for the 6.0. The livewire is a nice unit. You would have to get the EGT probe separate, but the monitor itself is capable of reading that function.

I've read about more issues with the wireless stuff though. There were issues, but now they have the iTSX so that should take care of those issues, if you're an apple guy and have an iPad or iTouch.

Mdub707--- with all that being said. I am going to buy a coolant filter it looks well worth the money. Do I need to flush the cooling system or should the coolant filter do the trick???

A coolant filter wont fix a flush, it just catches the little crap floating around in there. All coolant systems should still be flushed every so often. I would say do a flush and the coolant filter personally.

Coolant flush, EGR delete, coolant filter.... good combo.

i got my EGR delete from this place and if you are going to do it your self plan on at least 8 hrs that's how long it took me but i didn't do the HPOP screen or the oil cooler if you are going to do that you will have to pull the intake manifold to get to all the parts i would recommend removing the intake it makes it go a lot easier and you can clean all the parts the are their too.. this the site that i got mine from www.custom-diesel.com.. plan on getting a SCT tuner because your engine light will be on with out it. My truck is a 04
