Default Gauges

Ok I know this will probably start a discussion and I know everybody has a personal opinion but if you were to install gauges which would be your choice for gauge(s) and brand name.

From reading here I figure oil temp and coolant temp should be the first two.

fuel pressure should be rated just as high as those, if not higher.

I like the Isspro EV2's now (for factory matching stuff)

Autometer is also pretty highly rated and they have a LOT of options.

Stay away from glowshift.

Okay being a very large PIA - electric or mechanical fuel pressure gauge

Electric no doubt. Mechanical is actually a safety issue, could you imagine fuel at 55psi spraying inside the cab?

First and foremost, EGT! If I only had ONE gauge, that would be it! In fact, an Auto Meter Sport Comp EGT is my NEXT purchase. From there, a Bully Dog Watch Dog OBDII plug in monitor system. IMO, the price to function out weighs individual gauges and your interior doesn't look like a 737 cockpit.

Why Auto Meter AND Watch Dog? The WD requires a $150 EGT hook up just like the new Edge Insight CS and CTS, the Auto Meter is same cost and would free up one of the four displays.

I have used Auto Meter Sport Comp gauges since 1998, great products! My first (and last) Glow Shift product came with a bad sending unit. You get what you pay for.

If you don't have a programmer, EGT is kind of pointless though... You'll never hit dangerous temps on stock tuning IMO.

Maybe so, but you should allow adequate cool down, esp in the summer running the ac. Failure to do this can coke the oil in the turbo housing. I've seen mine 500+ in the summer after normal running around and it takes longer to spool down to sub 400. Preivous owner cooked the turbo in my truck (warranty replacement shortly after buying), I ain't taking any chances with this one.

Good point, I never really gave that much thought.

I understand that - I would never have gone the in cab route - they make an isolator setup that mounts in the engine compartment for the mechanical one
