Default More HP!

How much would it take and what all would i need to get more hp out of my truck. Somewhere around 800 or so would be nice without over doing it. and would it break a lot or need a ton of maintenance all the time.
thanks
jeff

Sell your hypertech and get an SCT with custom tunes. You should probably do a few more preventative things first. $800 won't really get you any further than a tuner. I would get a coolant filter if you don't already have one though. Beyond that it's turbo's and injectors, and $800 wont come close. You could also do a GoGo direct drive solenoid to help the shifting, they're $150.

the 800 was for hp not price range. coolant filter is on the way and blue spring mod also. going to get sct livewire eventually. Looking into fuel upgrades also before doing the heads and studs. and eventually injectors. thanks for the quick reply

Ok, 800hp has been done... are you looking to do this on fuel only, or nitrous too? What's your budget?

800hp on fuel... it wont be a daily driver anymore, competition only.

im looking to keep it steet legal and not really a daily driver but would like to drive it around on the weekends or play in the mud. and yes it would be on fuel only. and this is going to be a process not really a right away thing. (wife wont let me put that much too quick in it) i wouldnt mind putting 10k or so in it. and will i have to lose my lift if i do this?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

so what would be a good hp goal if i still wanted to tow a trailer or rv every so often?

Not necessarily on the lift, that's up to you. I'm sure 800 at the wheels will put stress on components and the weaker stuff will break, so that's your call and will depend on how it gets used.

Your budget is basically blown with a trans and injectors... might be able to do a trans/injectors/turbo for that price if you do some serious shopping and look for some good used stuff I'd guess.

NADP trans: $5500
225CC Warren Diesel Injectors: $3650 built from new OEM Ford cores.

You're at your limit right there, without a turbo.

225's are good for around 700 on fuel, but if you want to ever tow anything again you'll need compounds too, not just a big single. With a single, it will be a hot smoky pig, until that turbo lights, then you'll set the pavement on fire.

Unfortunately 225's are about as big as you can go if you plan on driving it on the street at all. Bigger than that, and you're into hybrids. Hybrids are not meant for "driving around", they are pretty much competition only, since they have fuel/oil dilution issues. The oil would need to be changed quite often.

800hp is a LOT on the street anyways... I can't imagine it being any fun in the mud either. It's either going to be belching smoke and not moving, or wide open fury.

To date, one of the highest HP fuel only 6.0's was MPD's whitey truck. It was a drag truck, lots of custom stuff on it. It was a single 75mm charger, dual waste gates, 340CC hybrid injectors, I believe it did a touch over 800 on fuel. But again, that was a track only truck.

More air is really what is needed on these, our head design just flat out sucks. This is why with a 66mm charger on one of our trucks and all supporting mods, we're around 600hp, and a d-max with the same stuff is 800hp.

How big of an injector can you go on stock turbo? Some have gone as high as 190's, but that much fuel with limited air means not a lot of towing. The good news is, tuning has come so far in the last few years that the tuners can pull a ton of fuel out on a tow tune and make it manageable for you. I definitely wouldn't go higher than that. 190's and a powermax turbo are a good upgrade. Really the turbo will be the limiting HP factor here though, it simply can't flow enough air to match all the fuel being pumped in. A powermax is like $1100 shipped now, drop in turbo. No core required either. They're not much bigger than stock so they spool quick, and they'll clean up a decent amount of fuel A 155cc or 175cc would also be a good option. A powermax with a batmowheel upgrade and 190's should get you close to 500rwhp, and the stock trans will live behind that without question, as long as you have the tuning to back it up, via an SCT.

As long as you stay 190cc or smaller, you should be ok on the stock trans. Again, tuning is the biggest factor in trans life.
