Low Rpm at start
#34
Well i am now a rev x fan. Put it in the truck yesterday and fired it up. Started really rough like it has been and then prolly about 2 min or so it just calmed down. Used it to haul some fire wood and it ran good. Still getting that crazy shake at start but its kickin up quick again instaead of acting like its havin a seizure. Didnt plug it in last night and it was pretty cool prolly upper 30s and the thing started right. Now I need to address the shaking problem. I read in my haynes manual that erratic idle could be caused by the egr valve. I still havent done the egr delete yet so I guess thats the next step. I also received my fuel pressure upgrade kit and I also got my 6.4 banjo bolts. Gonna pull her in the garage and start the surgery I guess.
I took another video with my phone sitting on the fan shroud and its really loud so im guessin they must be workin. Post it here later.
Also the belt. I tugged on it a few times and it seems to have gotten tighter but I think Im still gonna replace the tensioner and the belt. I didnt realize that it had a lock on it. I think I might try replacing the belt first. Im thinkin it might have gotten stretched.
The 2nd video I posted is how its acting now that the injectors are firing properly again. The video was takin a while ago but thats what its doin again.

It's possible you just have an injector or two that are beyond help by rev-x as well. Rev-x is some awesome stuff, but at the end of the day it simply just covers issues up and doesn't fix them. I use it myself, so don't take it the wrong way, but you drain the oil and refill and it's going to be back to the way it was.

How long do injectors usually last? The truck only has 70,000 miles on it.
Started the truck again yesterday and it fired right up again. I pulled it around the barn to load it up with some junk and had it idling with its *** on the high side and its nose to the ground. It sat there for a while running fine then it sarted missing. It eventually cleared up but I went ahead and shut it down. When I went to fire it up again it did the shake and act like crap thing again. Im really thinkin the major cause of the problem is the egr. Ive got the truck parked in the garage now so when I get off work Im gonna start tearin it apart. I hope by this weekend I will have the egr delete on, the fuel pressure kit installed and the bajo bolts installed.

I've seen stock injectors last anywhere from 15k miles to 275k miles. Crap shoot. A lot depends on the owners maintenance habits. Are they changing the oil frequently? Are they using quality oil filters (Motorcraft!), what kind of fuel are they getting? Do they use additive. Are they running low on fuel pressure ever (Fuel pressure gauge please!). Tough to say. I've had quite a few "sticky" injectors, but only had one actually fail on me. All in all, I think I've had 5 replaced by 90k miles. My buddy has a 2005 6.0 that didn't have a single injector replaced until 275k miles, and he only replaced it because it was getting sticky. That's the longest I've seen. There are plenty of guys with 150k on their trucks and all 8 original injectors. A lot of times they're replaced when they don't need to be as well.

Ok. Im guessing the reason the injectors are bein a pain in the *** is because the previous owner ran that amsoil forever in it. He said he would run the same oil until the test results would tell him to change it. Ugh. I swapped all the amsoil crap out and im now stock runnin 15w40 motorcraft. Is motorcraft ok to use? Im being serious and not a smart ***. I would think with it bein fords oil it would be ok but I want to check. Still using an amsoil oil filter cause he gave me a couple but i think you said they were ok. Can I go 5k on an oil change or do I need to change it every 3k like i did with the rangers? I really do appreciate you helping me out on this stuff.

5k miles is fine. Doesn't matter if it's synthetic of non synthetic, I really wouldn't go too much longer than that. I used the Amsoil filter with no issues, but when you run out, go to motorcraft. The motorcraft oil is fine from what I understand, I see no issues with it. FWIW, most common used oils for our trucks are standard rotella 15w-40, rotella T6 5w-40 (synthetic) and Valvoline premium blue 5w-40 (also synthetic). Some other's commonly used are the motorcraft you're running (I think even they have a synthetic out now, something like a 5w-30 maybe?), shaeffers, some amsoil users etc.
I did the amsoil thing too, it was $153 for the oil and filter, then every 5k miles it was another $30 to do analysis. I figured it was better in the long run to just get cheaper oil and change it more frequently, and far less costly.
These motors are considered a "high shearing" motor, and they reduce engine oil viscosity in quick order, thus the need to change every 5k or so. They really don't like to be pushed on maintenance things.
To answer your question, your oil choice is fine, and I wouldn't worry one bit about using the Amsoil filters, but when you run out go to motorcraft just for cost/peace of mind.
