6.0 rough idle, and drive issue
ok so im posting this for a friend hes got a 4wheel f350 crew cab long bed super duty he changes the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles just rescently just started to have some problems on start up it has a rough idle, when you drive it, it feels like its has no power till you get to 60-70mph and it also has a really bad shutter and shake like its got a really bad miss and it also sounds like the turbo is sticking i have a 99 7.3 that ive worked on and have had no problem but im not all that familiar with the 6.0 im a wyotech diesel grad and he wants me to work on it insted of paying a shop im thinking that the turbo is sticking because of an egr failure but im not to sure about the rough idle i think it might be the ficm any help would be greatly appricated thanks in advanced for any help ill find out the year and post it

Sounds like sticky injectors to me.
Does it smoke at all on start up? What does the smoke smell like? Burn your eyes like fuel, or smell sweet like coolant?
Does it clear up once the truck gets warmed up? Could very well be a FICM. Easy enough to test and eliminate if it's not... f it's bad it can be fixed pretty easy too. You can PM me if you have questions on that.

it doesnt smoke at all and it still does it when it is warmed up and i think that the turbo is sticking because when u start to accelerate it sounds like a planes taking off and and it will keep how do i do an injector buzz test and check the ficm? and could it be that he hasnt had the updates for the ficm because i dont belive he has had them done

I highly doubt an older flash would cause it to run like crap.
A lot of guys jump at the turbo sticking, when really there is a few possible causes for that. Injector buzz test needs to be done with something like IDS, or Autoenginuity.
FICM test, start there it's easy. 6.0's, FICM's and Cold Start Problems - PowerStrokeNation
If your turbo was in fact sticking, it would be really lazy taking off and you'd have a ton of black smoke coming out. So I don't think that is it just yet. Start with the FICM test and get back to us.
Do you have any way of reading codes? Even if the CEL isn't on, it will probably still have some codes. When, if ever, has the EGR valve ever been cleaned/replaced? That would also be another good thing to check, since it's very easily accessible, two 8mm bolts and most likely a pry-bar. If you have to use a pry-bar to get it out (like most do) that's probably part of the cause.
