04 f-250 6.0
I have a 04 F-250 90k miles on it, started boiling black smoke, and lost power on acceleration. my temperature gauge also came on, as well as fan but quickly came off. I checked the EGR valve which was stuck, covered in carbon i cleaned the EGR valve and placed it back. Now my truck will not start any ideas please help. I depend on this truck for work and need to fix asap. thanks

The black smoke is probably from that EGR valve. A good turbo cleaning would help also: DTS Articles - Turbocharger Reconditioning
Any codes? Does the truck crank and not start, or wont even turn over? If you let it sit overnight will it start? When it's cranking are you getting any smoke out the pipe during cranking?

thats what im hearing i replaced the EGR, and no it wont start, sprayed fluid in filter, and it will start but barely pulls fuel, the codes the shop gave me are P0401, P0402, P0404, and P1335 i think they are all EGR related, the shop said i needed a new IPDM intelligent power device module, but do not no enough yet about the 6.0 s to no if this is really the problem. and when running it does not produce any smoke, just will not stay running. im clueless

I have no idea what an IPDM is. Time to find a new shop maybe... That part doesn't even exist on a 6.0 to my knowledge. 7.3's have IDM's, we have FICM's on our 6.0's and honestly I would check that myself next. Your EGR codes may clear up with the new valve, but you're still not running. You can google search the FICM test and repair. Easy as pie to do, just need an extra set of hands to turn the key.
Ok, truck doesn't start and run, but while you're cranking are you getting smoke, let's not worry about smoke when it's running yet since it doesn't run.
Those are ALL EGR related codes.
What fluid did you spray in filter? Hopefully not Ether. Don't do it again if you have, you're gonna send the heads into orbit. Glowplugs and ether don't play nice together.

no it was carb cleaner, the only thing that sucks in TN is trying to find a decent diesel mechanic. He said he thought it was the IPDM, maybe thats why I googled it all night and searched the forums for related problems, only to find nothing. thanks for the advice on the FICM are they generally repairable or are you better off to buy a new one. Also no smoke while cranking. thanks for the help

Ok good, no smoke tells us the injectors are NOT firing. If they were firing and the truck wouldn't start you'd get SOME sort of smoke out the tail pipe. I'd check the FICM. PM me your phone number and I can walk you through the test. I can also fix them, and have good ones to go sitting on the bench so we could swap too. Oh wait, you're under 10 posts so no PM's for you. I'll PM you my number and see if you get it, if not let me know.
