Stock 5R110's are one of the most stout auto trannies in the diesel industry. Run it. I literally can not get my tranny temp over 180* in the dead of summer towing my camper uphill with a tune loaded up. That transmission rocks! Most times it sits around 150*. I wouldn't even bother with a tranny temp gauge unless you're towing over 10klbs daily.
Coolant filters are all the same more or less. I got mine from Bob @ dieselsite.com I know Adam @ FCDP sells them too, and Sinister sells them now too. All do the same thing, can't go wrong with any of them.

Oh yea... The 5r110 is a good tranny! I agree with mdub. Get yourself some gauges, a coolant filter, egr delete or upgraded one. Make sure you have good studs. I prefer s&b for an intake but afe is a good one. And definately get an sct for a tuner hands down. You can have a very reliable 6.0 with a little tlc and good maintenance!

No, the issue IMO with K&N is their dirt stopping ability... well more their LACK OF dirt stopping ability. I will never use one of their products again. My ATV's all get foam filters now and the trucks get GOOD dry filters. The K&N's are 5 layer filters I believe, most of the good ones like S&B and AFE are 7 layers as well. I prefer the dry setups because too much oil on the filters like K&N can cause issues with sensors down the line. Especially on trucks with MAF's, like 03/04 6.0s.

HAHA that is so funny. I guess I and the rest are compensating with you LOL. Like Mdub707 has thrown out there that 5R110's are a good transmission. I haven't any trouble with my transmission I have just added lucas transmission oil it comes in a 500ml container and it has seemed to improve the shifting. But I think when I am going to do my transmission change I am going to throw on a a deep dish just for piece of mind. But other than that I am no expert on these transmission I just know that 4r100 were crap and I went through 2 of them. But really get what you feel like you want the most, If its exhaust or a tune or engine work ect. everything leads into one another it just sucks when your just in the back 40 of the northwoods and your walking back like a peckerwood . Just foolin... Good luck with what you decide I am sure your going to have a truck. Good Luck
