Hey i have heard talk of periodic coolant flush with these engines and i was just wondering when and what i should do to protect our pickups at work. We have 6.0's here ranging in years from 04' to 06'. Also any other tips would be appriciated. Thanks, Chad.

I did mine as soon as warranty was up. I replaced my coolant with Caterpiller ELC coolant and put in a sinister coolant by-pass filter. Its a little bit more expensive than ford and the others but you wont have to change it for 1 million KM's. I ran cat in my 7.3L and never had a prob and so far nothing with the 6.0L. Hit caterpillar's site to see specs on there coolant. Change your oil as offten as possible 4500km - 5000km depending on if the truck is hauling or not. Fuel pressure is important to keep above 60psi. Hope this helps out.

 

Hey thanks Ghost i just figured if they plan on keeping these trucks it wouldnt hurt to try and make them last. So far we only have one rig that is really had some issues, and Mudstrokin suggested that the FICM was most likely the culprit. I hope to get the 6.0 in the shop tomorow and do the test to check it out.

 

Does the sinister coolant by-pass filter really work? From the pictures that I have seen it doesn't look like it would work because all the coolant doesn't go through it from what i see!

It's a bypass filter, the full amount of fluid is not made to go through it, it just takes a little at a time, filters it, and reintroduces it to the system, works the same as an oil bypass filter. By only filtering a small portion at a time, it's able to filter finer and get the really small particles out.

 

I see, I probably need this than? Or did they change the problem by 2005? I want to keep my truck stock and still have a warranty on it, what would you guys recommend for mine? I found a place that will take it back to factory flashes in 2004 but that is going to cost me about $250. I bought the truck new to tow a 32 travel trailer, but my wifes doesn't want to travel so I only use it to go deer hunting.

What would you do to it without affecting the ESP warranty?

I recently bought a truck that has a 36/36 warranty on it and am concerned, too. What I am going to do is purchase the two coolant hoses I cut and keep them in case I have to run the truck in for warranty. I'll just change the hoses out and nobody will know any better.

I am going to add an oil bypass as well. I don't think that would be difficult to pull off either, if need be, but I think there's enough studies and documentation that support the benefit of the oil bypass that negate having to camouflage its use.

 

I have an extended warranty on my truck and if u look at my sig u can c what all i have done to my truck. Ive never had any problems when i do take it to the dealer, except now im sure they would since i deleted the egr.But any intelligent ford tech should realize a coolant filter cant do any harm.

 

How did you put studs in and not affect your warranty? Where do you live that a dealer allowed you to do that? I would love to have them put in knowing what I am reading about the problems! I was told that if anything was wrong with my truck and I did something to change Ford spec it wouldn't be covered under warranty and might even cancel the warranty!

I dont have studs,those r coming in the near future. Ive had warranty work done last year like my turbo cleaned, 2 injectors replaced, and a new egr valve, and i had my coolant filter and bright red intake elbow in plain sight under the hood and the ford tech or the warranty claim guy never said a word.
