Decking the heads on these trucks when doing headgaskets is a MUST. You're a fool if you go through all of that trouble and don't have the heads decked.
yes i do agree ....since it only takes 20 hours to get them off....

You must be getting faster if you have changed your gaskets a few times

Do you take the cab off.....

I haven't done it once, been done dealer warranty every time. I'm CHOOSING to do it myself this next time because they can't get it right, and I'm at the point now I feel confident saying my work will be better than what they've done.

What's the old saying, if you want it done right, gotta do it yourself!

I have watched the procedure being done and aided in others, it's really not hard at all, just tedious and time consuming.

I think a first time could do all of the work themselves in 20 hrs or so. Faster if you've done it more. The biggest hangup is waiting for the heads at the machine shop.

badcarma, taking the cab off is easier than most think, and it sounds like a MAJOR deal, but really it doesn't look bad either. If I had access to a lift and garage with a tall roof, that's the route I'd be going, but I don't, so I will struggle and do it in cab. The cab on the trucks is held on with 4 bolts inside the cab, I think 2 are 19mm and 2 are 21mm or something like that, then under the hood it's just unbolting everying attached to the fenders/firewall and lifting cab slowly with a spotter to make sure nothing is attached still. Cab-on is more time consuming and less room to work. Excursions are still pretty easy, 6 bolts hold the cab to the frame, then the same stuff on the truck plus tail-light wiring and gas filler neck.

Easy as pie right?

Nope, don't ever plan on it either. Can't see spending $1100 or more on headers that may or may not actually do anything...

From what I hear is they help the turbo spool and helps keep the back cycles cooler for less wear on the valve from heat!

I hear the same thing, but haven't SEEN anything to prove it yet. I don't doubt they work, but honestly for most of us on here ,we'd NEVER notice it and that's not pocket change either. Well not for me anyways.

I was told by the Ford ESP that putting something on other than spec, can be deemed what was the cause of a failure. He said with the cost of fixing the 6.0 did I really want to risk the ESP warranty inspector that oks a fixture to say it wasn't covered because they think that what I did was part of the cause of failure like putting on a by-pass oil fiter that adds more tubing to the system in turn reduces the oil pressure or blockages.

Just thought I would tell ya what he said!
