Default salvage tilte question

i bought my 2004 f250 6.0 diesel crew cab with 60,000 miles for $15,000 with a salvage title. the truck looked really good, in my opinion it was a good deal.
here is the catch; i never ck the vin # when i bought it, so when i went to to the insurance the lady told me that she has never seen a vin # so short it was 2 letters a dash and 6 numbers, so i went to the truck to ck the vin # and it did not had any(it was ripped off)
so i call the guy right away and he told me that it had a new vin # at the drivers door frame
and yes it was there and it match the title. all this happen 4 days ago and i have not gone to the registry yet, im planning on going monday.
is this new vin # because the title is salvage?????

I don't think they would give a new vin number because of a salvage title. Since a vin number indicates year the truck was built, motor, etc. of THAT exact truck, I don't think they would change it.

Maybe it came undone and they didn't put it back or maybe it was stolen at once.

If the vehicle has a rebuilt title or custom build title it could have dmv issued vin. They do this in situations were a new cab was put on the vehicle.

I'm sure different companies and locations play a factor

im sure if there is an accident they will pay me for a salvage truck and not a clean truck but the price of the insurance will be the same for both trucks.

i wonder what is the % deduction for a salvage title
