Default starting trouble

well my dad has a 05 powerstroke that he purchased from a guy that ran his own performance deisel shop, so its modified. i don't know what kinda internal stuff he may have done to the motor though, and i took it to school today and on my way home i stopped at a friends house and when i was leaving i went to start it and it turned over fine but wont start. I'm kinda new to diesels but i know a little more than the average joe, but it was acting like it wasn't getting fuel. i checked the fuses and plugged the sct tuner in and reinstalled the tune but it still didn't work. i was thinkin it might be something small that could be fixed easy. anybody have any ideas??

Does it start once it cools all the way off, but it won't start when its warm, if thats the case it is only about a $50 fix but it is kinda pain in the ****, its the quick connect fitting on the high pressure oil pump, sorry to say that the HPOP is on the back top of the motor under a aluminum cover, must remove turbo to get to it. Just take your time and it can be done in an evening.

yea, when i went out this morning to leave i unplugged the deal in the front got in and it started right up. and when i left school in the afternoon it started right up again but i stopped at a friends house for maybe 20 min or less and it was still warm when i tried to start it and it wouldn't start, you think that might be the problem?

that is the classic case with the 05s, that is the only year that had that problem as far as I know, fixed the same thing on my sister's truck,

i think i saw that aluminum cover when i was looking earlier. Do you think it could be done without taking the turbo off?

No way no how, turbo has to come off, it's UNDER there.

Definitely sounds like the issue, stock 05 was known as the worst HPOP out of the years for some reason, though there are some out there that have had no issues.

NO, its impossible, you have to take the turbo pedestal out to get that cover off, you have to lift the cover up to get it off, its really not that hard, take the exhaust pipe loose, the up pipe loose, the intake/filter off, the one pressure tube, the oil line on top then the one connector for the actuatior, then I think it is 3 maybe 12mm bolts. perfect chance to do a EGR delete while your at it, better now than later, the egr is the main culprit to alot of problems
