Hey there, first off howdy to all the diesel lovers. This is my first post but I gotta say I am on this site everyday. I have had my 05 6.0L powerstroke for 2 years and have been very happy with the truck. Recently I went on a snowmobile trip with my family. We took my truck because I have the only diesel in the family and because I dont like leavin my truck behind. I was pullin 3 sleds on a 22ft covered trailer about 8 hours from home. We were 15 mins from the cottage when my truck ran dry of coolant and got hot. Long story short we got it to the ford dealer in Pembrook, Ontario. Turns out my oil cooler and egr cooler went on it. The truck was out of warranty in july and only has 122,000kms. I am waiting to hear if fords going to help with the $3000.00 bill. I dont have the money to fix it right at the moment(bulletproofdiesel). I wana know more about egr deletes. Does my egr cooler have to be in working order to put on a delete? What do I need? Any help at all would be great. Thanks.

If you want to do a CHEAP egr cooler block, take the cooler out, weld freeze plugs in both ends (make sure the one by the up-pipe is sunk in a little and fully filled with weld), put it back in, and no more exhaust going in it. Problem solved there. Or you can buy full delete setups on ebay for under $200 shipped if you look hard enough. River City Diesel sells them.

Oil coolers are also $225-$250 on ebay...

But if you're stuck out on the road you may not have these options. I'd at least get an EGR delete setup though, especially since you're gonna have to pay for labor already.

Yea i would do the EGR delete and no your EGR cooler does not need to be in working shape becuse you remove it just did a RCD EGR delete and a new oil cooler on my truck and it cost me less than $500.00 to do it myselfe. You would need a turbo mounting kit, EGR delete, Intake gasket and Oil cooler. Took me about 15 houres to do by my self and i have never really worked on a diesel truck before. Good luck o yea if you got oil in your cooling system you will need to clean all of your raidator hoses and flush you coolant system out really good ford says to replace all of the hoses and degass bottle but you can clean them up just takes a little bit of time but can save money. I would also not put back in the ford gold coolant crap i would put some good Cat-1 ELC coolant much better than the ford gold crap.

Ok thanks alot. Now is the oil cooler for 250.00 the ford oil cooler or aftermarket? does it matter if the egr is going to be deleted anyway? does the delete allow you to pass emissions still? also do all the deletes throw a code? Is there other tuners that can get rid of these codes? Thanks and sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Quick answers:

$250, is the ford cooler on ebay yes.

If the EGR valve and cooler are deleted, you STILL need the oil cooler in there. Two different parts. You will want to put a new oil cooler in no matter what else happens here, as that is the part that leads to all of these other parts failing.

All of the deletes throw a code (for the most part) for 05-07 trucks. 03-04 usually don't get the code. The code is just an insufficient EGR flow code, obviously because you wont have anything flowing over the valve. (or the valve is gone). All of the deletes do this, it's a matter of the truck and whether or not it decides to throw a code.

SCT is the tuner you would want with custom tuning. It is the best hands down anyways and the only real programmer out there. Anything else is sub par in my book and the book of a lot of others, do some reading around the 6.0 section.

No problem, that's why this forum is here!

What kind of emissions testing do they do in Canada? If it is the same as in Cali. you might have an issue with EGR delete.

There's no issues with welding the cooler up and putting it back in. No one would ever know the difference without physically taking it off the truck, and they're not going to do that.
