Default 6.0 Heads

I have a set of stock 6.0 heads on my workbench from a 07 f550 i want to put on my 05 F350 i was wondering what i should get done besides getting them decked and fire ringed? all I doing or done to it is the sct, k&n intake and exsaust, fire ringed, head studs, and maybe ingectors not sure what size, same with turbo, and egr delete i would like to get it ported and polished and heavier spring but not sure. any suggestions. it would be nice to be in the 5-600 hp range daily driver/eventualy tow rig

A 600hp daily driver/tow rig should really have compounds. What's your budget on this?

I'd skip the o-rings or fire rings on these, never heard of anyone having any luck with them on these. As long as your block is flat and true and your heads are flat, there should be no issues.

I would have them decked, pressure checked and magnafluxed. Your best bet is to bring them to a shop who deals with heads like this on a regular basis. They should be the ones telling you what should be done here, that is why you're paying them!

I'd lose the K&N too. S&B and AFE are the most popular. A dry filter setup is king on these turbo motors, a lot of times the oiled filters will do funny things to the MAF.

Are you planning on transmission upgrades? You may get by on stock tranny with good tunes for your SCT at around 500hp, but 600 you're on borrowed time.

Let us know what you want to do with this truck and your budget and we can point you in the right direction. You're going to need a fuel system too.

4000 would get you a set of injectors... maybe. Any of the good injector builders are going to tell you to go buy 8 new injectors from Ford, then ship them to the builder for them to modify. Otherwise you're just playing on borrowed time.

I'd start off with some good gauges, a hotter tune for your SCT, ARP headstuds, coolant filter, and complete EGR delete setup (though I see you're in Cali, so you may want to look into the bulletproof egr cooler). After you have that all done and the truck stays together, then you can look into turbo and injectors. 500hp is pretty easy to obtain. You could almost do it with a fuel system, hot tunes and some nitrous. If that's your thing.

well i have a set of injectors out of a 07 6.0l that i could use or i could swap them out with my stock ones the 07's only have 40k on them. i have the arp studs on my bench and i am regestered to Oh so i dont care about the egr delete i have that hanging on my wall waiting to go in. i dont want to put nitrous on it. ill have to talk to inovative diesel for a tune i guess. and do you think i should get the heads decked and get a new stock head gasket then and put the studs in?

Where is a good place to get a coolant filter at?

If you're going to do the headstuds, yes the heads need to be pressure checked, magnafluxed and decked. Without doing this, you're wasting your time putting ARP's in. You can use stock gaskets. Most use the black onyx or Victor Reinz. The VR are the same thing as the black onyx except no one really knows about the VR, and they're a lot less expensive. They're about $70 per side.

Coolant filte can be had from Adam @ FCDP (firstcoastdieselperformance) or dieselsite.com I got mine from dieselsite. Some have made their own too. It costs about the same to make your own and the dieselsite is a nice billet aluminum manifold, not a cheesy cast one.

The injector builders will probaby build with whatever you supply, but I doub they'd warranty those. They're still going to want NEW injectors from Ford. Used ones are just too much of a liability.

They sell either one. Mine of course were the 18mm.
