Yes clogged oil coolers happens often on these. I don't really agree with much that deezl stink3r has said honestly. The factory blocks are sand cast, over time the sand deposits break off the block and get stuck in the oil cooler. The oil coolers main function is to regulate the temp between oil and coolant. When it clogs, the coolant can't flow through enough and will start flash boiling and eventually lead to a failed EGR cooler (causes tons of white smoke), and eventually headgasket issues...

Without more info it's hard to say what exactly is wrong with your truck, but an EGR delete is a good idea. River City Diesel has the cheapest full delete setups, found on ebay. You can get them as low as $175 shipped, if you wait for one of their "less expensive" auctions and do the make an offer. For top quality kits, FCDP or GoGo diesel. Both require a core as they mod the intake manifold and they're near $600. (without core).

Being that you have an 05, more than likely if you do an EGR delete, you will get a check engine light for insufficient EGR flow, so you will need to purchase an SCT programmer with custom tuning from someone like Eric @ Innovative Diesel, Doug @ GoGo, Matt @ Gearhead (you can search for tuning options) and get a tune, as they will have the EGR function turned off, so the light will stay off. If you don't want to add power, they can do a stock tune with the EGR function off too.

Without more info or the truck in front of us, this is about the best we can do. Delete the EGR valve/cooler with a good kit (I use the RCD kit myself...) and replace the oil cooler and see what happens I guess...

it was around 37 degrees and i took off from a stop sign and white smoke just barreled out the tail pipe. i took forever to shift from first to second, the problem continued going from second to third and third to fourth. the engine acted like it didnt get enough fuel and air mix to power the truck forward. i then drove the truck to ford diesel and they told me that my egr cooler, egr vlave, oil cooler all were bad. it will run fine when it decides to. im using sinister diesel parts to fix the problems

Just so you know the RCD kits are the same as the sinister since they're copies of each other, but the RCD kits are less expensive...

Keep looking on ebay. They'll haev 5 kits for $300 on there, but then all of a sudden one for $200 or $250 will show up and it will have the "make an offer" button... then make an offer. I got mine for $185 shipped. I've heard of them as low as $175 shipped. Mine came with a free t-shirt too. Or the t-shirt was $150 and the EGR delete was $35!?

My truck just started to have the exact same problems, poor shifting (1-2-3), smoke, & power loss until it’s driven for a couple of blocks and warmed up. I have not noticed and coolant loss yet; curious what kit you when with and did you replace the oil cooler ?Loads of info out there but not exactly sure of the real problem yours sounds very simalar to mine.
