Well so far we got a 4 inch on it and a dr p module. Looking for some intake improvements now. Looking at banks, afe, s&b and cfm plus. Looking to do a filter upgrade and intake manifold upgrade. I'm liking the idea of getting an upgraded outlet pipe for the CAC that some kits offer. This pickup will also be getting converter and trans upgrades and an sct with live wire. Just wondering what some of y'all thoughs and experience's have been with intake parts. Thanks!

Stock intake is the best filtering setup out there and will support up to 500+ RWHP.

As for intake manifolds, Doug @ GoGo has the market on lockdown with that...

Ditch the DrP module and just put the SCT on.

I see some people put the larger boost tubes on, but I doubt you'll notice a single difference. The stock intercooler is pretty good on these trucks, to a point.

The CFM intake horns are a waste of money IMO. You wont notice anything from them. Money can be spent better elsewhere.

A coolant filter and some other gauges would be a good start.

A good tuner (SCT), coolant filtration would be a great start, but be advised, if you don't go inside and prep that engine beforehand, inevitably you will have major headaches. Only my thoughts, but the coolant system becomes a major player with this engine especially when you begin adding performance enhancements. EGR and OIL Coolers generally are the first to give way once the system becomes clogged with crud and eventually the "evil" spitting out the degas bottle occurs. Once that happens you might as well start tearing the engine apart to replace headgaskets and heads to the machine shop and ARP studs. Just be prepared before this journey.

I agree with post#2. I would also go for guages, studs, and exhaust.

Thanks for the replies! Gauges are on the shopping list. Really this pickup is a little more of a workhorse than a racing pickup. We are primarily interested in milage and good towing with it. The sct with livewire will be going on. Looked at the intake elbow it ain't too bad not like the one on a cummins. Thanks for the link on the manifold that may be an option when it comes time for an egr delete.

The intake elbow is a waste of money, don't even bother.

If you do get an SCT, you NEED to get custom tunes to make it worth while. If it's a workhorse, get a good towing tune, it will make it so much more enjoyable while towing. I use Eric's (from Innovative) aggressive tow. Supposed to be safe to tow up to the max gvwr of the truck, has about 50-70hp over stock, and the transmission tuning is just awesome. It actually makes towing my 21' travel trailer enjoyable. Fully loaded it is probably only about 5500lbs, but I can yank that thing up hills in the adirondacks and pick up speed pretty quick. It also keeps complete control of the tranny so going downhill is safe and easy.

Yeah I did some looking. Eric's name comes up allot so I figure if he wasn't making a quality product then people wouldn't be going to him. I think the first order of business will be the trans though.

What are you going to do with the trans? Is something wrong with it? A stock 5R110 will hold up no problem with your plans for it... especially with Erics tuning shifting it.

Well for one we are going with an upgraded converter. Going triple disk with that. Our trans guy does some amazing work and don't want an arm a leg for it. So we figure while it's out and having 90,xxx or so on it better safe than sorry and rebuild and upgrade the trans. Nothing insane basically the clutches and a mild shift kit. But yeah no full billet internals or whatnot with this build. I'd rather over build something and have a little piece of mind. We saw on his old 7.3 what a good rebuild with even a mild shift kit and upgraded converter will be with even a stock engine. It was nice!
