Stock 5R110 has a triple disk already from what I understand... Don't really see anyone putting shift kits in these, not sure they even offer it. That was a good thing for 4R100's since they were more mechanically operated, but on the 5R110 everything is electronically controlled, so with good tuning, the tranny will hold up really well.

Yes a good rebuild and shift kit on a 4R will help a lot. the 5R doesn't need it. Good tuning is far better. There are guys laying down over 500 rwhp on stock 5R110's and running them at the drag strip and the sled pulls without issues. You wont have to do anythign to it, but if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, feel free. Usually guys at that horsepower level (500-550) will run stock until it breaks, then just put another stocker in since they last so long.

Overall my opinion is that nothing is necessary other than some good tunes for your transmission.

Doug at GO GO Diesel has a tranny solenoid that helps with a crisper shift and eliminates the clutch slippage that takes place during those smoother shifts. Its about $ 150.00

Yep. Doug can also build a fully tranny for pretty inexpensive and really knows what he's doing.
