Stalling question
I have a 2005 f-250 at work that stalls out when we try to yank buses and stuff out of the mud. When it gets to the end of the tow strap and jerks back it dies. I know,I know, it's not good on the truck to treat it like that, but I have to do what the tell me. So is the torque converter locking causing it to stall or does it have some kind of inertia sensor that shuts it down. I think the converter is locking but I'm curious if it could be something else.

What year truck, how many miles, any other symptoms? Any smoke at all even on start up?
It's not the torque converter unless something is seriously wrong. It would never lock up in a short burst like that unless you had a tune on that had a torque converter lock.
The only inertia switch I'm aware of is the one to set the airbags off, so if the airbags haven't popped that's probably still good... haha.

A gallon of coolant ever two months? How often does it get used? What's it boosting too under heavy acceleration? I bet the vanes in the turbo are sticking to start with, which is likely since it's an 05 with only 55k miles, it tells me it sits a bit. Are you sure it's burning coolant and not just pushing it out the overflow?

I reread my post and I didn't explain it right. The sudden jerk when getting to the end of the tow strap(it's moving a good 15-20 mph when it get to the end) causes the truck to shutdown like the key was turned off, but it starts up normal. When it's towing 40,000lbs, they drive like a 1/4 mile car from light to light and I figure that where the smoke is coming from.

so ur sayin the vaines stickin is causin the truck to choke its self out???? im curious i mean he said he was tryin to pull a bus and shes jus dyin. i guess ur on the same page but sounds like to me shes jus shuttin down like wen a truck chokes out wen tryin to take off with a heavy load in a high gear. but hell mi stroker is fine and mi cummins never dun anything like tht so ig i might not be anywere near the same page
A stock truck shouldn't smoke at all, if you have black smoke coming out of it, I'm guessing the turbo vanes are sticking, and from what you've said about the truck being an 05 and only 55k miles... sounds like it probably sits a bit, which leads to sticking vanes. Sticking vanes lead to overboosting and blown headgaskets too.
