Default 2004 6.0

Well, at 82k, was pulling my boat to Florida and a loss of power and a TON of white smoke out the exhaust. Turned around, got off the road, had it all towed to the dealer. Local dealer pulled apart the oil cooler and replaced the internals, then a new EGR cooler, then VC9 flush. Total 2400.00 initially but I think they really did a great job and I left with a 700.00 bill (truck is under 100k miles but out of 5 year warranty)-they called it Loyalty Dollars each dealership gets that they helped me with. I put on a new CAC tube at same time (somewhat longer with a bend in it vice the shorter one). I also put on the turbo brace from turbofhosefix.com for 49.00 (I am no mechanic-no way to really make my own). I am really hoping for the best here with this truck. I bought it new and this is the first issue other than just regular service bulletins. My local dealership in Gulfport MS Butch Oustalet Ford "hooks me up"!. I just pull in and they get it inside immediately! No questions asked. I change the oil ever 2500 miles, seafoam every other tank of fuel, new fuel filter every 7500 miles! Tranny flush at 50k. Added the inline coolant filter from dieselsite.com. I am sooo hoping that by taking care of it in this way it will last! My local dealer service manager and dear friend and my other commercial guy in Metarrie LA says they have NEVER had a repeat of the EGR failure after doing the replacement oil cooler and egr cooler kit together with the vc9 flush!! Both continue to tell me that the oil cooler internals with the kit are different from what came stock with the truck. I put in the coolant filter to get any other particulates out of the coolant system is that this is what I continue to read causes the failure time and time again! It's paid for, only drive it 5k miles a year now to pull the Baja! (bought a 2005 Jeep Wrangler sport for day to day!). Great to read all the info you all have!!!! Thank You!

Default Thanks!

Military-USAF now for 29 years! I deployed all over the place and saved and saved to buy this truck in 2004. It's not a 5.9 cummings diesel and it's not a 7.3 diesel and if I knew then what I know now, I would have purchased one of the two, most likely used just a couple years old. I have 35" Toyo open countries on it with 20" moto metal wheels, a serious Donahoe racing 4.5" lift, custom stereo, sprayin bedliner, tool box, 85gal diesel tank, the truck looks inside and outside like the day I bought it! All I can do is do my best to keep it running and both of my service guys say that the majority of failures outside the egr failure fixed with the oil cooler and egr cooler kit are typically from lack of use or abuse and aftermarket chips and tuners! Seeing how little I know use the truck, no way I can afford a new Ford diesel or Dodge!!! Looked at an F-150, what a whimpy truck it seemed to be compared to my F250! Sat on the tailgate and dang truck sank a foot it seemed! Not sure how well it would pull my boat even though they say it pulls 11k (pulling power means nothing to me, it's stopping power!!).

Most people don't stud the 6.0, when they mod them then they cry when their head gasket goes

Default Head gaskets

Do you think many 6.0 dealers have head gasket issues so long as they are not running chips and other mods with increased pressures? I know some that have run out of coolant and that has affected their head gaskets. Dealer said mine looked just fine thankfully! I am just trying to do simple math now. Mine is paid for, a new Ford or Dodge is 55k plus much more insurance and tags! I figure that would equate to like 800.00 plus a month. I can do a LOT of repairs for 9600.00 a year I figure! We all have to just do what we can do with the dollars we have and continue to be careful in these difficult financial times.
