Lost a socket in the throttle body now what?
Ok, I was pulling the EGR Valve and knocked a socket into the throttle body, it went left (towards passenger side) and I can't find it. Where did it go? and is it going to cause a problem if left there (I know that sounds stupid) biggest thing is where did it go, into the oil cooler? the intake manifold? where?
This is a 2003 6.0L F250 powerstorke without the throttle flap.
Need some help.

My guess is it fell into the intake manifold, hard to say from this side of the computer, but that's the logical place for it to go, if it did indeed go into the MAF. Get a magnet in there, it can't be far in. Take the MAF off to get a better angle. How big of a socket is it? If it's pretty large it can't go anywhere further (like bigger than an intake port on the head....) If it's smaller it could have fallen in the head. Take the intake manifold off. On an 03 you're going to have to take the turbo off to get the manifold off too.

The socket is a 3/8 drive about a 5/8 inch socket. It was about the width of a nickel a bit bigger. I ran a magnet in there with no luck, the wife was able to get her hand in there and didn't feel anything, (that's not saying much).
Talk about being embarrassed right now, sheesh what a noob, how can I be so careless, this sucks. I am going to try a more powerful magnet that has bend capability to see if I can get in there and hopefully snag it.
Ah, forgive my ignorance but MAF? and where is it?

I'd pull the manifold. The good news is the fuel/oil filter bowls aren't too tough to remove. Make sure that you use TWO wrenches to take those fuel lines off! Then DO NOT over torque them (been there, done that, bought the housing).
If it's not in the manifold, it's too big to get by the intake valves, so there would be the next search.
A little late, but stuff a rag into open holes next time.

Figured out the what MAF is duh, got to forgive me, already had a few shots of tequilla and a couple of beers so my brain is moving slow. Actually the wife knocked the socket in there (hence the tequilla to keep from killing her). I'm hoping I can get it out using a better magnet, I am just not in the mood to have to tear it apart. Will keep you post though.
If anybody has any other suggestions on how to get it out, I'm all ears.

The magnet should work, if you can get it to bend in there. It's got to be right in that intake manifold. Worst case scenario, you take the intake manifold off, it's not that hard of a job at all, just time consuming. I bet you can get it with the magnet though. The Mass Air Flow deal is on top of the intake manifold, which is where I assume you dropped the socket in!? Maybe get a picture for us so we are clear as to where it went. Only the 03/04 trucks had the MAF on them anyways. You can unbolt the intake elbow and the MAF and you will be able to see into the intake better. I doubt it went far, there is probably a ton of sludge in there (like all of them) and it wouldn't let it bounce and roll all over.

and that's where I dropped the socket. It went left (passenger side) and I never saw it again.
