Blowing the seals on the high pressure lines will do it, but I have honestly not seen a single 6.0 mix coolant and oil from blown headgaskets. Just pushes out the degas bottle. Karls03 the degas is the coolant overflow. Same thing.

have you tried purchasing a new degass bottle cap for $16 ? they notoriously fail . also dont add coolant if it looks low . it usually isnt . they tend to fluxuate.

I have no water or oil but using coolant and no whire smoke, i did have some white smoke but i cleaned the EGR and added a fuel cleaner and a cleaner to my crankcase and the white smoke went away. But still using coolant. Can anyone say why that is.

Either EGR cooler or headgaskets. I bet there is a white residue around your cooalnt fill bottle eh? Does it make a tea kettle whistle after you let off the throttle.

I'm currently do for another headgasket job, this will be the 3rd set of gaskets in 80k miles. Done with the dealer, doing it myself and putting studs in.

I don't get white smoke either, my egr cooler is gone, going to try replacing the cap this time on the coolant bottle, but my guess is headgaskets.

Yes, the white residue is just dried up coolant. After it is sprayed outside of the bottle from too much pressure (ie blown headgaskets and combustion pressure leaks past gaskets and pressurizes the coolant system).

Here's a write up I did for a local forum I'm on, the vid tells you how to check it pretty easily...

So if you own a 6.0, you probably already are quite familiar with the headgasket and EGR cooler issues. There are plenty of write-ups and posts out there about how it happens and how to fix them. I wont really go into that right now since the info is widely available.

What comes up more often than not is someone will start pushing coolant, and without diving into the motor, they want to know how to diagnose exactly what the root cause is. How do you know if it's EGR cooler, or headgaskets...

Check this out, should help in determining what the issue is. Not fool proof, but should give you a good idea.
