Yeah I forgot all about this... be interested to see what came of it.
FWIW, a lot of the high horsepower 6.4 guys are using PCS controllers on their 5R's, since the factory TCM can't seem to make it shift quick enough. They seem to be working well. The one's that don't do that are putting 4R100's in...

i was reading that the pcs is basically the downfall to doing this. the reason being is because they are having trouble tuning the controller to shift right. where the OEM TCM has adaptive learning so it can make adjustments as you drive it. but you cant just run an oem tcm as a standalone. . . i would love to do this swap if i knew tuning the trans wouldnt be so hard

Your average joe probably wont be able to figure out the PCS, if that's what you mean. I've heard of no issues. Elite diesel is using a PCS on their 5R110 in their shop race truck, and the famous "godzilla" truck that was destined to compete in the diesel power challenge this year was also using one. Tuning the controller for this is just one of those things that takes time.

if you guys are still wondering, i did do the swap, but sold the truck a while ago, i ended up having to buy a manual shift t case, which i have an electric shift one forsale if anyone is needing one,
i had problems with the 5r110 shifting and could not tune it, even the my buddy had it tuned pretty good in his truck, ended up being a actual "hard part" problem, in the valve body/pump, truck has been a craigslist queen ever since i sold it last august.

the pcs was already tuned good in my buddies truck behind the 12 valve, then i put it in my truck behind a 12 valve, and it flared really bad in shifts, scott from destroked was trying to help me tune it, even if i made drastic changes it would act the same, then all of a sudden when it was in drive, it would roll forward on its own, untill you gave it some gas, like it was in neutral, then the trans let go going down the road right after i sold it and wouldnt move at all, pump was bad, and so was the valve body,(so im told) i think the converter welded its self to the pump

The tuning issues may have caused it to wipe itself out though... Same kind of thing when I rode in my buddies 6.0 with a bullydog (no trans tuning) and watched his tach rev out and miss shifts and flare etc... loaded an SCT up and issues went away, firm, crisp shifts. There's a thread going on PSA about this right now and everyone has talked the guy out of using a 5R behind his 12V because of tuning issues, you're not alone.
