hard start and slopping overdrive
i have a 6.0 that use mainly for work. It is a nice truck though and i need to find some of these things that are wrong. I recently had a real bad problem of the truck ot wanting to go at all. It would run and it would slowly move but it wouldn''t run for %^&. I did some research and unplugged the egr valve and wham bam it was fixed. Except for the check engine light. It has been running this way for about 3 months. I called ford yesterday to get the part and they said they had plenty of them. So i guess this is something that goes wrong alot. I apologize for the info on the second part of my post here. During the 3 onths with no egr valve hooked up, i began to notice a slight sloppiness in the overdrive while running down the highway. I get up to about 50 mph and when the truck shifts into od i begin to get kind of a jumpy drive. it is not bad bad, enough to notice obviuosly, but the truck still runs alright. Just a little jumpy. So then i can either hit the tow haul button, or kick down into passing gear and speed up to about 70 or 80 ( i love these texas speed limits) and the jumpiness is gone. The part i am apologizing for here is that i cannot remember for the life of me if the truck did this before the egr valve problem or not. So anyways i have the egr valve and gona do the install after i post this. SHould my new egr solve this jumpy problem?
I also am having a bad problem with the starts in the morning. If i plug it in then it seems to start like you would think it should without plugging it in. It starts up ok but it is definately not ready to go. I have very poor throttle response and it takes forever to get going. correct me if im wrong but when it is plugged in it ought to start and go, maybe not full throttle but it should still run. What do i need to look into replacing to correct this problem?
Oh boy, what a ford?! oNE LAST THING when the truck is running at just an idle the heater blows cold. If i just rev it up or drive some it begins blowing hot, but go back to an idle and it goes back to cold. WTF?
I thank you all in advance for your help and suggestions. I know alot about dodges, at least all the 5.9's, but these fords a bit more advanced and can get into a lot of money real quick if you dont know what your looking for. LIKE I SAID, THANKS YALL.

EGR valve could cause poor performance. You can replace it, or do an EGR delete if you're out of warranty and not worry about any more issues with it again.
Your second issue could be any number of things, and the EGR could possibly have some part in that, but it could also be FICM, or maybe even sticking injector spools. Try fixing the EGR valve issue (since you have to anyways) and see what happens.
Cold air blowing at idle is usually low coolant, and possibly bad headgaskets or EGR cooler. Under your hood, do you have white residue around the overflow tank for the coolant?
